                                Okta is seeking an experienced Software Engineer in Test to join our backend Core Engineering group, focusing on both automation and end-to-end testing. Okta's Core Engineering team is responsible for building and evolving shared infrastructure and services that lay the foundation for what other engineering teams build on. We're responsible for common shared services, including search, cache, configuration management, frameworks for asynchronous job management, and email pipelines, to name a few. Review requirements, design specifications, and application code to identify risks, prevent defects, and build reusable testing tools.Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and automation frameworks for high-performance, scalable software components and APIs.Design and implement scalable, reliable automated test suites covering functional, end-to-end, API, reliability, and performance testing.Contribute to the functional validation of new features and ensure seamless delivery to production environments.Partnered with scrum teams, release engineering, and management to scope, plan, and align test engineering efforts with industry best practices.Collaborated cross-functionally to deliver backend infrastructure engineering solutions and drive developer productivity initiatives.Ensured critical feature automation coverage, maintaining a zero-debt cadence and consistent release quality.Provided on-call production support, responding to alerts and customer-reported issues with rapid resolution and root cause analysis.Served as a strong customer advocate, embedding quality DNA into every stage of the software development lifecycle.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
2+ years in product testing & automation, including 1+ years with Java-based frameworks.Skilled in automation tools like Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, Rest Assured, Karate, TestCafe, etc.Skilled in performance testing tools like JMeter, Locust, etc.Strong grasp of software engineering, test methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines to drive build quality.Experience in testing enterprise-level, large-scale distributed systems.Proficient with databases (e.g, MySQL) for backend validation.Expertise in test planning, cross-team collaboration, and code/design reviews.Proven ability to deliver high-quality, well-structured test code with minimal supervision.Practical expertise with cloud and infrastructure tools, including AWS, Redis, Elasticsearch, Docker, and Kubernetes, to design, test, and deploy distributed systems at scale.Ability to leverage AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Gemini, OpenAI API, Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) to enhance productivity and problem-solving.Ability to integrate AI-powered assistants into daily workflows to improve efficiency in research, documentation, coding, and communication.Continuous learning mindset with the ability to adapt to new and evolving AI technologiesNice to haveHands-on experience with Spring, Maven, and Tomcat, building and testing scalable backend servicesExperience with enterprise SaaS is a good-to-haveFamiliarity with the Agile software development process
