Position Summary

Mortgage Underwriter

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage loan applications to ensure

  accuracy, completeness, and compliance

  with internal policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Examine all required loan data, reports, inspections, and collateral documentation to validate investor and company requirements.
• Make independent credit decisions regarding loan acceptance and risk based on HUD, FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, Reverse, and company guidelines.
• Provide final approval underwriting of

  Conventional, Correspondent, FHA, VA, and Reverse mortgage loans

  .
• Complete and sign off conditions within management timelines, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance.
• Collaborate with processors, advisors, and management to resolve escalated loan files and provide solutions.
• Review appraisal forms, validate collateral security, and determine property value.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of all required paperwork and reports.
• Maintain thorough documentation within

  Encompass

  and related systems.
• Participate in process improvement discussions and recommend enhancements to underwriting procedures.
• Maintain strong communication with internal teams while ensuring high levels of customer service.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree

  (minimum of 15 years of formal education) is mandatory.
• Minimum

  1 year of experience in US residential mortgage underwriting

  , with strong knowledge of supporting financial and non-financial documentation.
• Proven expertise in

  income calculations (salaried & self-employed), asset/liability verification, credit review, and appraisal verification

  .
• In-depth knowledge of

  FNMA, FHLMC underwriting standards

  , HUD, FHA, VA, Reverse, and Correspondent Lending guidelines.
• Familiarity with underwriting procedures across loan setup, post-closing, repurchase review, and underwriting.
• Strong understanding of

  4 Cs of underwriting Credit, Collateral, Cash, and Capacity

  .
• Proficient in appraisal review processes, even if handled by a separate department.

Must-Haves

• Strong expertise in

  US mortgage residential underwriting

  .
• Working knowledge of income calculations for salaried and self-employed borrowers.
• Ability to review and manage 300400 documents with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Familiarity with

  Encompass

  or similar mortgage platforms.
• Immediate joiners preferred, or candidates serving notice and available to join in

  August or September
