Role Overview: As a senior Rock Mechanics Specialist in the Geotechnical Section at COWI, you will play a crucial role in providing technical guidance and leadership in rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering for complex infrastructure projects. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the domain of rock mechanics within the business unit, acting as a subject matter expert internally and externally, defining best practices, developing innovative solutions, evaluating project teams, and mentoring less experienced staff. You will lead and manage rock mechanics design teams for the delivery of medium to large infrastructure projects, oversee geological models and designs, ensure project delivery to time, scope, and budget, develop project scopes, review work, communicate progress to stakeholders, and assist in bid preparation. Key Responsibilities: - Oversee the domain of rock mechanics within the business unit - Act as a subject matter expert internally and externally, promoting COWI - Define best practices, professional standards, technical delivery approach, and knowledge sharing - Evaluate skills and resources required for capable project teams - Develop innovative solutions for complex matters - Lead and manage rock mechanics design teams for infrastructure projects - Oversee development and review of geological models, designs, reports, and drawings - Ensure technical accuracy and compliance with industry standards - Develop project scopes based on requirements - Review work of less-experienced engineers - Communicate design work progress to stakeholders - Interpret and organize design results into project documentation - Assist with bid and tender preparation Qualifications Required: - Masters degree within Civil / Geotechnical Engineering / Rock Mechanics - Minimum 12+ years of project design experience in rock tunnels, caverns, and underground structures - Experience leading rock mechanics design teams for transportation and hydropower projects - Sound knowledge of rock mechanics fundamentals and design approaches - Understanding of tunnelling and underground construction methods - Basic working knowledge of BIM and AutoCAD - Experience with design software such as RS2/3, SWEDGE, UNWEDGE, DIPS, UDEC, FLAC/FLAC3D, Plaxis 2D/3D, Sofistik, and others - Knowledge of international standards (EURO, Canadian, NFF, BS, API, etc.) - Experience in Scandinavian, UK, or North American markets is a plus - Ability to collaborate across geographical and cultural boundaries - Proficient time-management, organization, multitasking, communication, and collaboration skills Please note that the additional details of the company were not explicitly provided in the job description.
