Senior Research Associate in Fermentation & Downstream processing

Role and Responsibilities

• Responsible for optimizing fermentation/downstream processes to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality. It also involves scaling up processes from lab to pilot or production scale
• Responsible for the operation of specialized fermentation/ downstream plant equipment such as various types of fermenters, centrifuges, chromatography exchange, extraction, evaporation and filtration (micro/ultra filtration)
• To actively participate in the day-to-day activities of upstream/downstream process
• Set up, operate and clean process equipment such as bioreactors, columns, tanks, and filtration systems
• Plan and perform experiments in laboratory and pilot plant
• Proper use and maintenance of the equipment in laboratory
• Literature survey for specific requirements. Able to spot the problem and try to find solution using literature reports. Assistance in report writing. Work on all the aspects of project progress
• Complete the documentation of experiments. Analyze samples and record /tabulate all the relevant data
• Must be able to wear the required protective equipment. Adhere to company environmental, safety, and health policies and procedure. Ensure lab/pilot plant compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Knowledge of safety in that particular process
• Work schedule is considered shift but will vary depending on experiment plan and other extraordinary conditions

Experience/

• 4-8 years
• Strong understanding of fermentation principles, downstream processing unit operations (filtration, chromatography, etc.), and relevant equipment
• Experience in the fermentation upstream/downstream processing of fermentation batches at lab/pilot facility for biomolecules/biopolymer/biorefinery products

Skills and Abilities

• Work as a part of upstream and downstream processing team to enable the successful development and scale up of fermentation and downstream processes
• Knowledge about modern analytical tools of fermentation and downstream process
• This role involves developing new or improving existing upstream/downstream processes, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with other teams
• Considerable knowledge of laboratory fermentation /downstream process equipment and technology
• Skill in setting up fermentation/downstream plant equipment and process for new development
• Ability to schedule the lab's workload to function in the most efficient manner possible
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professors, researchers, technicians, students, and fellow workers
