Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team for the design and development of traction converters power electronic stacks. The candidate will be responsible for mechanical layout, thermal management, structural design, and packaging of traction power electronics systems used in electric mobility and rail applications.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Mechanical Design: Develop and optimize the mechanical layout of traction converters, including enclosures, mounting systems, heat sinks, busbars, and cooling systems.
  2. Thermal Management: Design and simulate thermal solutions (air/water cooling) to ensure reliable operation under specified environmental and electrical loads.
  3. 3D Modeling & Drafting: Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings using tools such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo or CATIA.

Material Selection

  1. Select appropriate materials for mechanical and thermal performance, weight optimization, cost, and manufacturability.
  2. System Integration: Collaborate with electrical, thermal, and EMC engineers to ensure seamless integration of all subsystems.
  3. Testing & Validation: Support prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical and thermal systems in the lab and field.
  4. Standards & Compliance: Ensure designs meet industry standards (e.g., IEC, EN) and customer specifications regarding safety, EMI/EMC, vibration, and thermal performance.
  5. Documentation: Prepare technical documentation, design reports, and BOMs for internal use and customer delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in power electronics, traction systems, or industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Creo).
  • Experience with thermal and structural simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
  • Knowledge of cooling systems (liquid or forced air) and thermal design principles.
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical compliance for rail or automotive industry standards is a plus.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with traction systems in railways, EVs, or industrial drives.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage insulation, creepage and clearance requirements.
  • Hands-on experience in prototyping and testing.
