Senior Manager/Manager - SMS (EAF & Hot Metal bay)

Department:

Role Objective:

EAF (Electric Arc Furnace) and Hot Metal Bay

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintenance Planning & Execution

• Prepare preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for EAF, Hot Metal Handling Systems, Ladles, Transfer Cars, and Auxiliary equipment.
  
• Ensure timely execution of shutdown and breakdown maintenance with minimum production loss.
  
• Implement condition monitoring systems and reliability-based maintenance practices.
  

• Equipment Management

• Oversee mechanical systems of

  EAF, Hot Metal Bay cranes, ladle handling, slag pots, transfer mechanisms, and cooling systems

  .
• Ensure availability of critical spares and consumables in coordination with stores and procurement.
  
• Drive equipment modifications and upgradation projects for improving performance and safety.
  

• People & Team Management

• Lead and guide a team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians in SMS mechanical maintenance.
  
• Ensure continuous skill development and safety awareness among team members.
  
• Foster coordination with operations, E&I, refractory, and production teams.
  

• Safety & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to safety standards during maintenance and operation activities.
  
• Implement LOTO, permit-to-work, and other statutory compliance practices.
  
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for major failures and implement corrective actions.
  

• Continuous Improvement

• Drive initiatives for

  reduction in MTBF/MTTR

  and improvement of OEE.
• Introduce automation, digitalization, and predictive maintenance tools (vibration, thermography, ultrasound, etc.).
  
• Identify and execute cost optimization opportunities in maintenance.
  

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of

  EAF & Hot Metal Bay mechanical systems

  .
• Expertise in maintenance planning, shutdown management, and reliability improvement.
  
• Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, and cooling systems used in SMS.
  
• Strong leadership, decision-making, and crisis management skills.
  
• Proficiency in SAP/ERP-based maintenance systems.
  
• Safety-focused mindset with knowledge of ISO/OSHAS systems.
  

Qualifications & Experience:

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
  

• 12–20 years

  of experience in

  Mechanical Maintenance of SMS

  with expertise in

  EAF & Hot Metal Bay

  equipment.

Experience in leading a maintenance team in a large integrated steel plant preferred.
