Senior Manager HSE - Transportation

Role & responsibilities

Purpose of the Role

To direct and supervise Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, initiatives, and adherence for all transportation-related activities throughout the company. In accordance with business goals and global best practices, this position guarantees the highest standards of road safety, driver welfare, legal compliance, and environmental sustainability

Strategic Leadership

• Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Transport HSE Management System in accordance with ISO 39001, ISO 45001, and other pertinent standards.
• Create yearly HSE plans and strategies for enhancing road safety for the transportation function.
• Set up KPIs for transportation safety and track results across all areas and locations.
  Compliance & Governance
• Verify adherence to regional, national, and worldwide transportation safety laws (such as the Motor Vehicles Act, CMVR, and OSHA equivalents).
• Perform routine audits and review and approve the transport HSE plans of contractors and subcontractors.
• Lead investigations into significant transportation incidents, identify underlying causes, and guarantee successful remedial measures.

Operational Support

• Provide guidance to site-level HSE and transport teams on hazard identification, risk assessments, and safe work procedures for road transport.
• Support operations in fleet safety management, including vehicle specification, preventive maintenance standards, and telematics monitoring.
• Drive initiatives for driver training, competency development, and fatigue management programs.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

• Monitor, analyze, and report transport HSE performance trends to corporate leadership.
• Develop dashboards and conduct quarterly HSE review meetings with transport operations.
• Benchmark corporate transport HSE performance against industry leaders.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Liaise with regulatory authorities, industry associations, and clients regarding transport safety matters.
• Collaborate with procurement to integrate HSE criteria in transport vendor selection and evaluation.
• Engage with insurance providers to improve risk ratings and claims management.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

• Introduce

  technology-based safety solutions

  (e.g., AI dashcams, telematics, fatigue detection systems).
• Champion initiatives for fuel efficiency, emissions reduction, and sustainable logistics.
• Promote a

  strong safety culture

  through campaigns, leadership visits, and recognition programs.

Preferred candidate profile

Experience:

• 10+ years experience in HSE management, with at least 5 years in

  transport/logistics safety

  at a corporate/regional level.
• Proven track record of leading large-scale transport safety programs and reducing incident rates.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices for heavy vehicles, dangerous goods transport, and driver safety.

Skills:

• Strong leadership and influencing skills across multiple business units.
• Analytical mindset with proficiency in HSE data analytics and reporting.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and training delivery skills.
• Ability to travel extensively to operational sites.

Education:

• Bachelors degree in Engineering, Safety Management, Logistics, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Road safety-specific certifications (e.g., IRTE, Smith System, or equivalent) desirable.
