Senior Database Administrator ( PostgreSQL on AWS RDS or Aurora)

Role & responsibilities

Job Summary
As a senior database administrator, you will be responsible for the administration, optimization, and reliability of Liongard's core platform database. You will work closely with development and DevOps teams to ensure database instances are performant, scalable, highly available, and cost-efficient.

The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of PostgreSQL and hands-on expertise in leveraging AWS RDS and/or Aurora for high availability, performance, scalability, and disaster recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Architect, plan, and coordinate with development and DevOps teams to implement improvements to availability, scalability, and performance of Liongard's core platform RDS PostgreSQL database instances in a cost-efficient manner.
• Monitor database performance and troubleshoot high-resource utilization.
• Analyze and optimize database performance by tuning configuration parameters, query plans, and indexes.
• Plan and perform database major version upgrades and data migrations ensuring minimal downtime across production instances.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a database administrator with at least 4 years of experience managing PostgreSQL on AWS RDS or Aurora.
• BS or higher in Computer Science or related field.

Required Skills

• Deep expertise in PostgreSQL administration, including configuration, performance monitoring, query performance tuning, replication, and backup/recovery.
• Strong experience with AWS RDS, including multi-AZ and read replicas.
• Experience with partitioning, sharding, and other techniques to handle large-scale data growth.
• Experience with AWS Aurora.
• Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, S3, CloudWatch, Lambda.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Desired Skills

• AWS Certified Database Specialty certification.
• Cybersecurity industry experience.
• Experience with DynamoDB.
• Experience with Amazon Athena.
• Experience with Grafana's LGTM stack.
• Familiar with Agile methodologies.
