Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical and Surgical Care:

  • Perform kidney transplant surgeries, including live and deceased donor transplants.
  • Conduct pre-transplant evaluations for both donors and recipients.
  • Manage post-operative care, monitor graft function, and adjust immunosuppressive therapies.
  • Handle transplant-related complications and re-transplant cases.
  • Supervise dialysis bridging patients and coordinate with nephrology and urology departments.

Program Development and Oversight:

  • Lead and expand the kidney transplant program in line with national and international standards.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., NOTTO, Transplantation of Human Organs Act).
  • Monitor transplant outcomes, data reporting, and quality improvement measures.
  • Participate in policy development, SOPs, and infection control practices related to transplant care.

Team Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Work closely with nephrologists, urologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, and transplant coordinators.
  • Guide the transplant team on patient selection, transplant logistics, and post-transplant follow-up.
  • Coordinate with ethics committees and organ procurement organizations (OPOs).

Academic and Training Responsibilities:

  • Participate in or lead training programs for DNB/MCh residents, fellows, and nursing staff.
  • Contribute to academic publications, clinical audits, and transplant-related research.
  • Conduct case discussions, transplant boards, and CME sessions regularly.

Patient Counseling and Communication:

  • Counsel patients and families on transplant eligibility, risks, outcomes, and lifelong care.
  • Engage in donor-family discussions and consent procedures with empathy and clarity.
  • Educate patients on medication adherence, lifestyle, and post-transplant follow-up.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Qualification:

  • MBBS with MS (General Surgery) or MCh / DNB (Urology) or equivalent
  • Fellowship in Kidney/Renal Transplant Surgery from a recognized center (preferred)
  • Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of post-specialization experience, with at least 5 years in renal transplant surgery
  • Independent experience in live and cadaveric transplant procedures
  • Licensure:

  • Valid registration with State/National Medical Council
  • Registration with appropriate transplant authorities (if applicable)
