Job Description

Performs echocardiograms utilizing ultrasonic equipment in various modes and techniques to locateevaluate and record pertinent anatomicalpathological and functional data.

Job Responsibilities:

Provides echocardiography service at all necessary locationsworking variable shiftsweekendsand providing emergent call coverage as scheduled.
Operate equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and to obtain optimal diagnostic recording; utilize ancillary devices such as selected transducersdigital networking systemoff-line analysis systems. Maintain equipment in working ordermaking minor adjustments and repairs. Perform routine cleaningpreventive maintenanceand report any equipment malfunction to echo lab manager.
Analyze patient s medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures. Prepares preliminary reports for review and interpretation by Cardiologistincluding comparison of previous studies.
Participate in quality improvement activities; evaluate procedure results for technical quality and accuracy; maintain appropriate logsfilesand records. Review department performance in relation to established goalsimplementing changes to effect outcomes.
Maintain confidentiality of patientsemployees and corporation-related activities.
Instruct studentsfellowsnursesor health personnel as requested.
Communicates technical and patient care related information according to established processes and timelines.
Attends Echo Lab Meetingsparticipates in Echo related conferences through attendanceensuring continuing education and professional growth.
Cultivates a collaborative and cooperative work environment within department.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Actively participates with patient testingperforming routinenon- routineurgentand emergent patient requests.
Performs advanced cardiac ultrasound services and procedures to patients utilizing independent judgmentwith real-time and off-line manipulation of echocardiographic images for capturedisplay and analysis of echocardiography data.
Assists the physician with Echocardiography guided studies to aid them in proceeding with complex procedures to decrease potential associated procedural risks.
Acts as a resource and assists Junior Cardiac Sonographers and Cardiology Fellows with pre/post procedurespreliminary review of images obtained and report.
Acts as a preceptor by on-boarding Junior Cardiac Sonographers with departmental orientationin-service and education.
Support and recommend quality assurance initiatives.
Assist in establishing and maintaining department objectives and goals by functioning as a site Charge Sonographer.

Candidate Requirements:

Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment.
Ability to evaluate sonograms in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
Ability to integrate diagnostic sonogramslaboratory resultspatient history and medical recordsand adapt sonographic examination as necessary.
Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
Ability to evaluatesynthesizeand communicate diagnostic information to the attending physician.
Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care teamrecognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patients needs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and health care team.
Ability to follow established departmental procedures.
Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.
