What's the role
A cross-business role providing in-depth analytical support, advisory and Consultancy for different CP/SC stakeholders such as Category teams, Asset and Country based frontline teams. The Supply Chain Consultant will be an integral member of MICA team focusing on strategy support and opportunity identification for frontline assets and categories.
- Contribute significant strategic, conceptual and analytical skills to various assets & categories by developing end to end supply chain insights, building cost escalation forecasts, conducting price variance analysis, building should cost models, conducting scenario analysis, external benchmarks to identify opportunities to drive most competitive supply chains efforts.
- Develop & maintain capabilities to identify and analyze market & competitive trends including support to Category Managers for assigned categories on appropriate strategy development activities.
- Build & maintain robust stakeholder relationships - e.g. working closely with different businesses, categories and frontline teams.
- Comply with HSSE (Health, Safety & Environmental) requirements and other agreed compliance area.
- Actively explore opportunities for deployment of mathematical models for deeper analytics and insights
 
Digital Responsibilities:
- Delivers opportunities together with other Supply Chain teams to improve efficiency, doing things smarter and ability to devise and implement digital solutions e.g. automation of repetitive workflows through Power BI, Power Apps etc.
- Actively explore/evaluate new tools/methods to share/deploy opportunities and value levers to stakeholders and also to establish effective feedback mechanisms on gap closure and performance management from end stakeholders.
 
Other responsibilities:
- The Supply Chain Consultant supports both centrally managed and asset-specific categories, supplier-led initiatives, and contract optimization efforts. Key responsibilities include:
- Provide consultancy across various categories such as Logistics, Warehousing, HSSE, Environmental Services, IT & Digital, Real Estate, and Professional Services. Consultants may specialize in one or more categories while gaining exposure to others (T-model approach).
- Analyze contracts across Shell assets to identify improvement opportunities in pricing, demand, specifications, technology, productivity, and sustainability (e.g., GHG reduction).
- Use data analytics and mathematical modeling to generate actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
- Collaborate daily with frontline SC Leads and Category Managers, and regularly with senior leaders (SC Managers, Enterprise Category Managers, SC GMs).
- Develop asset-specific insights, identify value opportunities, and co-create action plans with teams to close performance gaps.
- Assist in demand forecasting, spend analysis, strategy development, and negotiations. Drive implementation of opportunity heatmaps.
- Conduct cost modeling and benchmarking to deliver insights across oil and gas supply chain categories.
- Produce reports, presentations, and thought papers on best practices and emerging trends, supporting their adoption across Shell's supply chain.
 
What We Need From You
- Technical degree with Professional experience of 3-6 years in areas related to business analysis in oil and gas industry focusing on technical and commercial aspects of business-related contracting, procurement and strategic sourcing. Strong candidates with relevant experience from other industries will also be considered. Having an MBA would be a distinct advantage.
- Knowledge/experience in cost modeling, benchmarking, market intelligence, sourcing strategies, supplier and contract management would be a distinct advantage.
- Being able to use Python/R with working exposure in data analytics/ mathematical modeling such as Multivariate analysis and other predictive analytics methods, probabilistic simulations etc. would provide a distinct advantage to the applicant.
- Strong exposure to consultancy, commercial/supply chain strategy or internal advisory/corporate strategy teams is a key requirement - specifically structured problem solving, constructive challenge/probing and deep analytics/insights
- Individuals should be able to engage and drive forward work activities across full scope of current or planned projects but not necessarily as an expert in all areas.
- Ability to work in a consulting environment on projects with varying complexity and high ambiguity.
- Individual should be highly numerate, able to handle/interpret data, and to think creatively in terms of so what  & what if & why does it matter etc. and think laterally/have appetite to find out and reach out as required to see bigger picture and be able to conceptualize different solutions/deliverables as situation demands. 
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concisely and coherent manner.
- Good relationship skills are key to regular interaction with a broad range of stakeholders, at varying levels of seniority in a time of change.
- Strong analytical abilities, able to handle/interpret large volumes of data, out of box thinking to provide valuable insights (the so what) on economic, technical, financial and/or commercial areas to support decision making.
- Proficiency across Microsoft tools like PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Spotfire, Power BI would be a distinct advantage.
- A wider affinity with and interest in (energy) policy, regulatory, technology and socio-economic matters on a global scale and the energy industry would be an advantage.
- A strong team player with curiosity and willingness to undertake tasks outside of comfort zone and be willing to take time for team building and related community engagements
