Job Title: Sand Casting Expert

Job Purpose

The Sand Casting Expert will oversee and execute the complete sand casting process for architectural hardware components such as lever handles, pull handles, and other ironmongery products. The role ensures high-quality castings, process efficiency, and adherence to Bellis Hardware’s quality and design standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Mould Preparation & Casting:
• Design, prepare, and maintain sand moulds and cores for casting hardware components.
• Select appropriate moulding sand and additives to achieve required surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
• Supervise pouring of molten metal into moulds, ensuring safety and precision.
• Pattern & Tooling Management:
• Work with patternmakers and designers to create and maintain accurate patterns for hardware products.
• Suggest improvements in tooling and mould designs to enhance efficiency and reduce defects.
• Process & Quality Control:
• Monitor melting, pouring, and solidification processes to prevent casting defects.
• Conduct inspections of cast products for surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and structural integrity.
• Implement corrective measures for recurring defects (e.g., porosity, shrinkage, cracks).
• Optimization & Cost Control:
• Optimize sand usage, recycling, and reclamation to reduce waste.
• Improve cycle times and productivity without compromising on quality.
• Team Collaboration:
• Train and guide shop-floor workers in sand casting practices.
• Work with the Quality Assurance team to meet Häfele’s and other clients’ standards.
• Coordinate with design & purchase teams for raw materials and consumables.
• Health & Safety:
• Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards during melting, moulding, and handling of castings.
• Maintain safe working conditions in the foundry.

Qualifications & Skills

• Diploma / Degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or Foundry Technology (preferred).
• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in sand casting for precision components (hardware, automotive, or related industry).
• Strong knowledge of moulding techniques, melting processes, and metal properties (brass, aluminum, stainless steel preferred).
• Ability to identify and troubleshoot casting defects.
• Knowledge of patternmaking and basic machining.
• Leadership and training skills for shop-floor supervision.
• Strong focus on quality, precision, and continuous improvement.
