Safety Officer

Role & responsibilities

• Implement and monitor company health, safety, and environment (HSE) systems at project sites.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legal and statutory requirements (Factories Act, OHSAS/ISO, local regulations, etc.).
• Conduct regular site safety inspections, hazard identifications, and risk assessments (JSA/HIRA/HAZOP).
• Investigate incidents/accidents to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.
• Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and training for employees and contractors.
• Ensure implementation of Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and other site-specific safety protocols.
• Develop and implement emergency response and first aid plans at the site.
• Maintain statutory records, safety documentation, and prepare reports for site and corporate management.
• Coordinate with project teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities for compliance.
• Ensure contractor safety management and adherence to Thermax safety standards at all times.
• Promote a positive safety culture and participate in safety committee meetings and initiatives.

Preferred candidate profile

• Deep knowledge of construction/project site safety management.
• Strong understanding of statutory and legal safety requirements.
• Excellent communication, training, and leadership qualities.
• Proficiency in MS Office/Safety Management software.
• Project execution in power, bioenergy, chemical, oil & gas, large infrastructure, or process industries.

Educational Qualifications

• Degree/Diploma in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Electrical) from a recognized university/institute.
• Degree/Diploma/Certificate in Industrial Safety (e.g., Advance Diploma in Industrial Safety [ADIS] or Post Diploma in Industrial Safety [PDIS] or equivalent, recognized by State/Central Government).
• Additional certifications (e.g., ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, First Aid, Fire Safety) are desirable.
