Safety Officer

Role & responsibilities

  1.Safety Management System

• Implement and maintain the Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) as per ISO 45001 standards.
• Develop, update, and enforce EHS policies, procedures, and SOPs in line with corporate and statutory requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments (HIRA, JSA, FMEA) for new and existing operations.
• Drive Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and Safety Culture initiatives across the plant.

2. Legal & Statutory Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with all applicable Factories Act, Environmental Acts, and State Safety Rules.
• Maintain statutory records (Form 4, Form 13, Safety Audit Reports, Accident Registers, etc.).
• Liaise with government and regulatory authorities (DISH, MPCB, etc.) for audits, inspections, and reporting.
• Track and close compliance gaps through systematic action plans.

3. Incident Investigation & Reporting

• Lead incident / near-miss / accident investigations, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain and analyze safety performance metrics (LTIFR, TRIR, Near Miss Reports).
• Prepare monthly and annual safety performance reports for management review.

4. Training & Awareness

• Conduct induction, refresher, and specialized safety training (Work at Height, Confined Space, PPE, Fire Safety, etc.).
• Promote safety awareness among employees, contractors, and visitors through campaigns, tool-box talks, and mock drills.
• Develop safety champions / committees within the plant to drive participation.

5. Fire & Emergency Preparedness

• Maintain and test fire protection systems (hydrants, extinguishers, alarms).
• Develop and periodically review Emergency Response Plans (ERP).
• Conduct mock drills for fire, chemical spill, and natural disasters.
• Coordinate with local fire department and emergency services.

6. Contractor & Project Safety

• Review and approve contractor safety plans and permits (Hot Work, Height Work, Electrical, etc.).
• Conduct EHS audits for contractor activities and shutdown projects.
• Ensure compliance during new equipment installation, commissioning, and layout changes.

7. Environmental & Sustainability Initiatives

• Support initiatives in energy conservation, waste reduction, and sustainability in alignment with Rise for Good philosophy.
• Assist in monitoring air, water, and waste management systems.

8. Continuous Improvement

• Drive Kaizen, 5S, and TPM safety pillar activities.
• Benchmark plant safety performance with best-in-class practices.
• Participate in corporate EHS audits and internal assessment programs.
