Job Summary

A Restaurant Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the restaurant and service areas, supporting the service team, and ensuring that dishes, cutlery, and glassware are clean, organized, and available for smooth restaurant operations. The role is key in creating a clean, safe, and presentable environment for guests and staff.

Key Responsibilities1. Cleaning & Hygiene

  • Wash, clean, and polish dishes, cutlery, glassware, trays, and other service equipment.
  • Ensure restaurant tables, service stations, and floors are clean and organized.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, counters, and back-of-house areas as needed.
  • Follow hygiene, sanitation, and food safety standards (HACCP compliance).

2. Support to Service Team

  • Assist servers and restaurant staff in carrying dishes, clearing tables, and setting up stations.
  • Help in arranging banquet or special event setups when required.
  • Refill service stations with condiments, napkins, and other essentials.

3. Equipment & Inventory Handling

  • Maintain proper storage and handling of cleaned items.
  • Report damaged or missing items to the supervisor.
  • Assist in maintaining cleaning supplies and inventory.

4. Waste Management

  • Collect and dispose of garbage in designated bins.
  • Ensure segregation of waste (recyclable, organic, general) as per hotel/restaurant policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness around waste disposal areas.

5. Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all safety guidelines while handling cleaning chemicals, machines, or hot utensils.
  • Adhere to restaurant SOPs, hygiene, and grooming standards.
  • Assist in maintaining fire and safety standards in dining and service areas.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a steward in restaurants or hotels is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Basic understanding of cleanliness, hygiene, and kitchen etiquette.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physically fit to handle prolonged standing, lifting, and manual work.
  • Team player with good communication skills.
