Job Overview:

The R&D Specialist/Scientist will be responsible for formulating, testing, and optimizing new and existing personal care products
This role requires a blend of scientific expertise, creativity, and problem-solving skills to develop high-performance, market-ready formulations that align with client needs and industry trends

Key Responsibilities:

Research, develop, and reformulate skin care, cosmetic, and oral care products (eg creams, serums, cleansers, makeup, toothpaste, etc)
Conduct stability testing, compatibility testing, and performance evaluations of formulations Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Production, Quality Assurance) to ensure product feasibility and scalability Stay updated on industry trends, new ingredients, and regulatory requirements (eg FDA, ISO, COSMOS, ECOCERT) Source and evaluate raw materials, actives, and preservatives for efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness Document all R&D processes, including batch records, SOPs, and technical reports Assist in troubleshooting production issues related to formulations Ensure compliance with GMP, ISO, and other relevant quality standards

Qualifications & Skills:

Hard Skills:

Strong knowledge of cosmetic chemistry, emulsion systems, surfactants, and rheology modifiers
Experience with formulation software (eg Chemistrix, SimSol) is a plus Proficiency in lab techniques (eg HPLC, FTIR, viscosity testing, pH adjustment) Familiarity with regulatory guidelines (FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation, etc)

Soft Skills:

Innovative & Creative - Ability to think outside the box for unique formulations
Detail-Oriented - Meticulous in documentation and testing protocols Collaborative - Works well with marketing, production, and suppliers Problem-Solver - Troubleshoots formulation and stability issues effectively

Education & Certifications:

Bachelor s/Master s in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field
Additional certifications (eg Diploma in Cosmetic Science, Regulatory Affairs) are a plus

Preferred Experience:

3-5 years in R&D formulation within skin care, cosmetics, or oral care
Experience with private label manufacturing is highly desirable Knowledge of natural/organic formulations is a bonus
