Job Summary:

The Emergency Department (ED) Staff Nurse provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in a fast-paced and unpredictable environment. This role is responsible for assessing, triaging, and managing patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical conditions. The ED Staff Nurse works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the multidisciplinary team to deliver timely interventions, ensure patient safety, and support optimal clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform rapid and accurate patient assessment, triage, and prioritization based on clinical acuity.
  • Deliver evidence-based nursing care including medication administration, IV therapy, wound care, and emergency interventions.
  • Monitor, interpret, and document vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and patient responses to treatment.
  • Assist with emergency procedures such as resuscitation, airway management, and trauma care.
  • Collaborate with physicians and team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records.
  • Provide emotional support, education, and clear communication to patients and families.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control, safety protocols, and departmental policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement and ongoing professional development.
  • Manage multiple patients simultaneously in a high-stress environment while maintaining professionalism.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Active RN license (state-specific).
  • BLS, ACLS required; PALS and TNCC preferred.
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced setting.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous Emergency Department or acute care nursing experience.
  • Certification in Emergency Nursing (CEN) considered an asset.
