Job Overview:

The R&D Chemist will be responsible for formulating, testing, and optimizing cosmetic and personal care products (skin care, makeup, oral care, etc)
This role requires a strong background in cosmetic chemistry, hands-on lab experience, and a passion for developing safe, effective, and marketable formulations

Key Responsibilities:

Formulation Development:

Design and develop innovative skin care, cosmetic, and oral care formulations (creams, lotions, serums, cleansers, lipsticks, toothpaste, etc)

Lab Work:

Conduct stability testing, compatibility testing, and performance evaluations of raw materials and finished products

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure formulations meet global regulatory standards (FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation, ISO, etc)

Scale-Up Support:

Assist in transitioning lab-scale formulations to pilot and full-scale production

Documentation:

Maintain detailed R&D records, batch logs, and technical reports

Supplier Collaboration:

Work with raw material suppliers to source and test new ingredients

Market Research:

Stay updated on industry trends, new ingredients, and consumer preferences

Troubleshooting:

Resolve formulation challenges related to texture, stability, efficacy, and cost

Qualifications & Skills:

Hard Skills:

Strong knowledge of cosmetic chemistry, emulsion systems, surfactants, rheology modifiers, and preservatives
Experience with HPLC, FTIR, pH testing, viscosity measurement, and other lab techniques Proficiency in formulation software (if applicable) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Familiarity with GMP, ISO 22716, and regulatory guidelines for cosmetics

Ability to develop unique formulations with precision

Problem-Solving -

Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot formulation issues

Team Collaboration -

Works well with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Production, QA/QC)

Time Management -

Handles multiple projects efficiently

Education & Certifications:

Bachelor s/Master s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field
Certification in Cosmetic Science (eg SCC, SCS Diploma) is a plus

Preferred Experience:

2-5 years of R&D experience in cosmetics, skin care, or oral care formulations
Experience in private label manufacturing is highly desirable Knowledge of natural/organic formulations, sustainable ingredients, and clean beauty trends is a plus
