Mercor is seeking PhDs and PhD candidates in Radiochemistry and related disciplines

This role involves evaluating and enhancing cutting-edge large language models (LLMs) by applying deep subject-matter expertise in radiochemistry and nuclear science to rigorously benchmark model performance in specialized scientific domains.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate

  the accuracy, depth, and domain relevance of LLM-generated content in key areas of radiochemistry:
• Radiochemical separations and purification methods
• Radiotracer production and applications
• Nuclear decay processes and radiation detection technologies

• Design and review

  domain-specific evaluation tasks that challenge model understanding of complex radiochemical concepts.

• Provide high-quality feedback

  on model outputs, identifying scientific inaccuracies, reasoning gaps, and opportunities for improvement.

• Collaborate with AI researchers

  to interpret failure modes and inform model alignment strategies.

• Contribute to benchmark datasets

  and help define robust evaluation criteria tailored to radiochemistry.

You’re a strong fit if you have:

• A PhD (or are currently a PhD candidate) in Radiochemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Nuclear Engineering, or a related STEM field.
• Deep familiarity with current research and open questions in:
• Radioisotope production and radiolabeling techniques
• Alpha, beta, and gamma spectroscopy
• Actinide and lanthanide chemistry in nuclear fuel cycles
• Applications of radiochemistry in medicine, energy, or environmental science
• A strong ability to critically evaluate scientific logic, technical articulation, and empirical methods.
• Excellent analytical thinking and attention to technical detail.
• Strong written communication skills, especially in scientific contexts.
• Comfort working independently and asynchronously in a remote, distributed environment.
