Quality Head

Role & responsibilities

1. Leadership & Management

Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Quality Assurance department.

Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) aligned with industry standards (ISO, GMP, GLP, ISO 9001, etc.).

Lead, mentor, and evaluate QA team members, ensuring skill development and high performance.

Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with Production, R&D, Procurement, HR, and other departments.

2. Quality Policy & System Management

Establish and maintain the organizations quality policies and objectives.

Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory, statutory, and customer standards.

Oversee documentation control, including SOPs, quality manuals, records, and forms.

Conduct periodic management reviews and report quality KPIs to top management.

3. Compliance & Audits

Plan, schedule, and conduct internal audits of all departments.

Coordinate external audits (customer audits, third-party certification audits, regulatory inspections).

Ensure timely closure of audit findings, CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions), and follow-ups.

Monitor adherence to GMP, hygiene, safety, and process compliance across the organization.

4. Process Control & Continuous Improvement

Identify areas for improvement using root cause analysis (RCA), Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes, reduce defects, and improve quality performance.

Analyze trend data to prevent quality issues and enhance process reliability.

5. Product Quality Assurance

Ensure all incoming, in-process, and final product quality checks are performed as per specifications.

Approve or reject raw materials, packaging materials, intermediates, and finished goods.

Oversee calibration and validation of critical equipment and instruments.

Ensure batch records, inspection reports, and test results are reviewed and approved.

6. Customer & Supplier Quality Management

Handle customer complaints, investigations, and corrective actions.

Communicate quality-related issues to customers and provide technical support when needed.

Evaluate and audit suppliers; ensure supplier compliance with quality expectations.

Monitor and improve supplier performance through scorecards or audits.

7. Risk Management

Identify quality risks across operations and implement mitigation plans.

Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and risk assessments where required.

Develop and maintain product traceability and recall systems.

8. Training & Awareness

Develop and conduct training programs on quality systems, SOPs, safety, and compliance.

Promote a culture of quality awareness throughout the organization.

9. Reporting & Documentation

Prepare periodic quality reports (KPIs, trends, non-conformance reports, audit summaries).

Ensure accurate record keeping as per organizational and regulatory requirements.

Present quality findings to top management and recommend improvements.

10. Strategic Planning

Support new product development from a quality perspective.

Participate in budgeting for quality resources, tools, and equipment.

Stay updated with industry best practices, new standards, and regulatory changes.

Preferred candidate profile

- Bachelor's degree in Quality Management, Engineering, or related field

- Minimum of 20 years experience in a quality assurance role

- Proven experience in a leadership or managerial position

- Strong leadership and communication skills

- Proficiency in quality management systems, data analysis, and problem-solving
