Quality Engineering Lead – Java / API / Cloud

Role Overview:

The QE lead will lead quality engineering for various integration projects. The role requires a hands-on technical leader who is highly skilled in Java-based test automation, API testing, and cloud integration (Azure). This person must be able to work independently, mentor others, and engage in solution design for complex enterprise integration landscapes.

The role will also require the ability to collaborate with AI-assisted test generation tools, working with prompt engineering techniques to accelerate and improve test case design.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead quality engineering efforts for API-first, cloud-based integration projects.
• Work closely with developers, architects, and DevOps engineers to design and execute robust automated test suites.
• Quickly come up to speed on existing codebases, frameworks, and patterns, then apply them to new test cases.
• Work with AI-based tools to generate and optimise test cases.
• Handle multi-technology environments, acting as a technology-agnostic problem solver.
• Work with microservices, message queues, and event-driven architectures.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Core Technical Skills:
• Java – Advanced proficiency in Java-based test automation.
• API Testing – Hands-on experience with Rest Assured or equivalent frameworks.
• Cloud Integration – Strong experience with Azure services, particularly:
• Azure Blob Storage
• Azure Event Hubs / Kafka
• Azure App Insights
• Azure Functions & related libraries
• Messaging & Queues – Kafka, Azure Service Bus (or similar).
• Microservices Testing – Deep understanding of testing distributed systems.
• DevOps Awareness – Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment models.

• Automation & Tools:
• Test automation frameworks (Java-based)
• Experience with API contract testing
• Familiarity with performance testing tools is a plus

• AI-Assisted Testing Skills:
• Prompt engineering for test case generation
• Understanding of LLM-based test automation augmentation

• Soft Skills & Leadership:
• Ability to lead a small QE team.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a technology-agnostic mindset.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
• Self-driven with the ability to work independently and proactively.
• Capable of quickly understanding code written by others and explaining it clearly.

• Experience:
• 8+ years in Quality Engineering.
• 3+ years in a senior/lead QE role.
• Proven experience in large-scale enterprise integration projects.
