Job Description

The Engineer Inspection & GOM will be responsible for leading dimensional inspection and GOM (optical 3D scanning) activities for aerospace-grade castings in the Aeroalloy Technology BU. The role ensures product conformity to design specifications using traditional and advanced metrology tools, including GOM, with a strong focus on quality assurance, precision, and compliance with aerospace industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Dimensional Inspection:

  • Review and approve dimensional inspection reports for as-cast, proof-machined, and final machined components.
  • Conduct detailed inspections using traditional metrology tools (e.g., Vernier, Micrometre, CMM) and prepare inspection documentation.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications thoroughly to define inspection criteria.

GOM (3D Optical Scanning):

  • Perform 3D scanning using GOM or equivalent optical systems to compare scanned data against CAD models.
  • Analyse deviations using inspection software and generate comprehensive reports.
  • Support die/mould corrections and pattern validation using scan-to-CAD comparison.

Quality & Process Control:

  • Identify key and critical characteristics during development and ensure robust inspection coverage.
  • Participate in the root cause analysis of non-conformities and support CAPA activities.
  • Collaborate with design, CAD, and production teams for inspection alignment and design feasibility.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive improvements through defect analysis, Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S initiatives.
  • Support development of SOPs, inspection work instructions, and training documents.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Submit reports via ERP or hardcopy as per internal process.
  • Provide sign-offs on inspection reports (personally performed and approved by others).
  • Maintain documentation as per AS9100, ISO 9001/14001/45001 standards.

Team Coordination:

  • Lead and guide inspection team members on inspection priorities, accuracy, and reporting timelines.
  • Coordinate with CAD and Tooling for development of gauges, fixtures, and inspection templates.
  • Assist in planning work priorities and decisions regarding job rework or progression.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical, metallurgical engineering, Production, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 3–6 years in dimensional inspection, preferably in aerospace or high-precision casting environments.
  • Hands-on experience with GOM/ATOS or equivalent optical scanning systems.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 and aerospace quality systems is highly preferred.

Technical / Functional Expertise & other competencies:

  • Proficient in CAD interpretation and optical 3D scanning analysis.
  • Skilled in using inspection tools like CMM, GOM, height gauges, etc.
  • Familiar with ERP systems and MS Office.
  • Strong documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
