Role Summary
We are seeking a QA Engineer - Payments Transformation to ensure quality, stability and regulatory compliance across global payments modernization programs. The role focuses on validating end-to-end payment workflows , system integrations, message transformations and operational controls across cross-border, domestic and real-time payment systems .
The ideal candidate will have strong experience testing payment processing platforms , a solid understanding of payments lifecycles (initiation through settlement and reporting) and exposure to modernization initiatives such as ISO 2 migration, real-time payments (RTP/FedNow), API enablement and STP improvement .
This role will work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Java/Python engineering teams and Transformation Leads to ensure high-quality delivery across both BAU and change initiatives.
Key responsibilities
1. Payments Testing & Validation
- Design and execute test strategies, test plans and test cases for payment processing systems across initiation, screening, routing, settlement and reconciliation.
- Validate end-to-end payment flows across channels and schemes including SWIFT, SEPA, ACH, RTP, FedNow and cross-border payments .
- Perform functional, integration and regression testing for payment engines, APIs and downstream systems.
- Validate ISO 2 (MX) message transformations , schema compliance and mapping logic (MX MT where applicable).
2. Transformation & Modernization Support
- Support testing for payments modernization initiatives , including platform migrations, API enablement and real-time payments rollout.
- Validate straight-through processing (STP) , exception handling, retries and fallback mechanisms.
- Test coexistence scenarios where legacy and modern payment systems operate in parallel.
- Participate in PoCs and pilots for new payment capabilities and accelerators.
3. Controls, Compliance & Resilience
- Validate integration with AML, sanctions screening and regulatory controls within payment workflows.
- Perform testing for reconciliation accuracy, intraday liquidity impacts and operational reporting .
- Support performance, volume and resilience testing for high-throughput and real-time payment systems.
- Ensure adherence to security, audit and regulatory requirements during test execution and sign-off.
4. Automation & Agile Delivery
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts for payment APIs and workflows (where applicable).
- Work with DevOps teams to integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines .
- Participate in agile ceremonies , supporting sprint-based testing, backlog refinement and release validation.
- Track defects, support root-cause analysis and collaborate with development teams on resolution.
Skills Required:
- 6-10 years of experience in QA / Testing roles , preferably within payments, transaction banking or financial services .
- Strong understanding of payment lifecycles and schemes (SWIFT, SEPA, ACH, RTP, FedNow, ISO 2).
- Hands-on experience testing payment processing systems, APIs and integration flows .
- Familiarity with message formats (MT/MX), XML/JSON and validation tools.
- Experience with test management and defect tracking tools (JIRA, Zephyr, ALM or similar).
- Exposure to automation frameworks (Selenium, RestAssured, Postman or equivalent API testing tools).
- Understanding of reconciliation processes, exception handling and operational risk controls .
- Experience testing real-time and high-volume transaction systems is a strong plus.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to work across business, QA and engineering teams .
