Production Planning Engineer

Role & responsibilities

• Develop detailed

  production schedules and resource plans

  for machinery manufacturing projects based on project scope, design deliverables, and client timelines.
• Coordinate with

  Design, Procurement, Fabrication, Machining, Assembly, and Quality

  departments to ensure seamless workflow and schedule adherence.
• Translate

  engineering drawings and BOMs (Bill of Materials)

  into actionable

  work orders and job cards

  for shop-floor execution.
• Monitor

  machine loading, manpower deployment, and capacity utilization

  across fabrication, machining, and assembly units.
• Track

  WIP (Work-In-Progress)

  and maintain visibility of critical parts and subassemblies to prevent bottlenecks.
• Liaise with the

  procurement and stores teams

  to ensure raw materials, bought-out components, and outsourced parts are available as per the plan.
• Identify

  production delays or constraints

  and take corrective actions in coordination with production supervisors and project managers.
• Support implementation of

  Lean manufacturing principles

  and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce lead time.
• Generate and maintain

  production performance metrics

  , progress reports, and variance analyses against planned vs. actual timelines.
• Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with

  quality standards, safety norms, and project specifications

  .
• Contribute to the effective use of

  ERP/MRP systems

  for production scheduling, inventory control, and reporting.
• Working knowledge of

  quality standards (ISO 9001)

  and shop-floor documentation practices.
• Strong coordination and communication skills with cross-functional teams.
• Skilled in

  data-driven decision-making

  and

  Excel-based analysis

  (Gantt charts, dashboards, etc.).

Analytical and proactive approach to problem-solving in dynamic project environments.

Preferred candidate profile

• Bachelors degree

  in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering.

• 3–7 years

  of relevant experience in

  production planning within a machinery or capital equipment manufacturing setup

  .
• Experience in

  project-based or job-order manufacturing

  (as opposed to mass production).
• Strong exposure to

  fabrication, machining, assembly, and testing operations

  for mechanical equipment.
• Familiarity with

  ERP/MRP systems

  such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
• Exposure to

  project scheduling software

  (MS Project, Primavera P6) is desirable.
• Strong understanding of

  production workflows

  ,

• Proficiency in

  data analysis and reporting tools
