Production Head

Job Purpose / Statement:

Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the cast iron foundry, with a primary focus on managing the processes related to melting from a cupola furnace, core making, and molding of heavy castings. The role involves coordinating production activities, ensuring quality standards are met, optimizing production processes, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment. Having exposure in Costing is required.

Role & responsibilities

Production Planning

• Develop and implement production plans to meet customer demands and deadlines.
• Ensure efficient utilization of resources to achieve production targets.

Process Management:

• Oversee the melting process using the cupola furnace, ensuring proper charging of materials and efficient melting of metals.
• Supervise the core making process, ensuring the production of high-quality cores that meet specifications.
• Monitor the molding process for heavy castings, ensuring precision, quality, and adherence to design requirements.

Quality Control:

• Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure that products meet industry standards and customer expectations.
• Conduct inspections and tests to identify and rectify any production defects.

Health and Safety:

• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and guidelines to create a safe working environment.
• Train and educate staff on safe work practices and procedures.

Inventory Management:

• Monitor and control raw material inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
• Collaborate with procurement to ensure timely delivery of required materials.

Staff Management:

• Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of production operators and technicians.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to employees.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
• Implement Lean or Six Sigma principles to optimize operations.

Equipment Maintenance

• Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of machinery and equipment to minimize downtime and breakdowns by implementing the TPM

Reporting and Documentation

• Maintain accurate production records and prepare reports for management.

KEY DECISIONS BY THE POSITION HOLDER

Take all the day to day decisions related to resources allocations, production planning and execution, inventory management

Can take the decision on hiring of people as per the MPP in production department.

Continual improvement projects which has ROI of 1 to 2 years

Finalise the raw materials specifications in consultation with purchase to optimise the cost

Hiring the contractor in production department

Take the decision on process parameters/SOP in consultation with process/quality/NPD

Take the final decision on his team members based on the performance/if any one violates the core values
