Job Title: Senior Procurement Engineer / Assistant Manager Procurement

Location: Hyderabad

Department: Procurement / Supply Chain

Reporting To: AVP Operations

Functional Reporting To: Managing Director (MD)

Job Purpose

To oversee and manage the end-to-end procurement life cycle for real estate and construction projects, including the sourcing of materials, vendor engagement, cost and payment management, and ensuring timely procurement aligned with project milestones. The role demands excellent communication skills, a deep understanding of construction and interior materials, and the ability to coordinate across various departments for effective execution.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Procurement Planning & Coordination

  • Assist in developing and executing procurement schedules in line with project requirements and timelines.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, and design teams to forecast and fulfill material needs.
  • Ensure timely sourcing and delivery to prevent project delays.

2. Vendor & Supplier Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and empanel reliable vendors and suppliers for construction and interior works.
  • Float RFQs, analyze quotations, prepare techno-commercial comparisons, and recommend vendors.
  • Maintain a robust vendor database, including performance history, compliance documents, and certifications.

3. Material Knowledge & Technical Evaluation

  • Demonstrate solid understanding of:
    • Construction materials (e.g., cement, steel, aggregates)
    • MEP components (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC)
    • Interior materials (e.g., plywood, laminates, paints, flooring, hardware)
  • Perform technical assessments and coordinate with engineering and QA/QC teams for material approvals.

4. Purchase Order & Work Order Management

  • Raise and issue POs/WOs aligned with budget approvals and negotiated terms.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete and approved as per internal workflows.
  • Track delivery schedules and address any delays or discrepancies with vendors proactively.

5. Payment Processing & Coordination

  • Gather and verify invoices, delivery challans, and completion certificates.
  • Liaise with the finance and accounts teams to facilitate timely vendor payments.
  • Maintain payment trackers and update vendors on their payment status.

6. Internal & External Coordination

  • Act as the primary link between vendors, site teams, project management, and leadership.
  • Provide timely updates to the AVP – Operations and escalate any critical procurement issues to the MD.
  • Facilitate smooth cross-functional coordination to ensure seamless project execution.

7. Cost Control & Budget Management

  • Monitor procurement costs against project budgets and flag deviations.
  • Explore cost-saving opportunities through negotiations and value engineering.
  • Prevent material wastage or excess ordering through careful demand planning.

8. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of all procurement activities, including POs, invoices, agreements, and delivery notes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies, statutory norms, and audit requirements.
  • Support internal/external audits and submit necessary documentation.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation and vendor management abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of construction, MEP, and interior materials
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP platforms (SAP, Zoho, etc.)
  • Familiarity with commercial/legal terms in contracts and orders
  • Multitasking and time management under tight deadlines
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field
  • 3 to 6 years of procurement experience in the real estate, construction, or interior fit-out domain
  • Experience in procurement for high-end commercial/residential projects is preferred
