Job Specification: Pharmacy Manager Hospital

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) Required
• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) or Masters Degree in Pharmacy (M.Pharm) Preferred
• Must be a registered pharmacist with a valid license from the relevant regulatory authority

Experience

• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a hospital or clinical pharmacy setting
• At least 2-3 years in a leadership or managerial role
• Experience with regulatory inspections, pharmacy accreditation, and clinical audits

Key Responsibilities

Pharmacy Operations

• Oversee daily operations of the pharmacy department, ensuring timely and accurate dispensing of medications.
• Develop and implement pharmacy protocols and policies aligned with hospital standards.

Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards (e.g., FDA, NABH, HIPAA, JCI).
• Maintain proper records for controlled substances and manage regular audits.

Clinical Collaboration

• Work closely with physicians and nurses to provide drug information and support clinical decision-making.
• Monitor and improve medication safety practices, including adverse drug reaction reporting and medication error tracking.

Staff Supervision

• Recruit, train, and supervise pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff.
• Conduct performance reviews and support continuing education and professional development.

Inventory & Supply Chain Management

• Monitor medication inventory, manage procurement, and ensure cost-effective purchasing.
• Prevent stockouts, overstocking, and wastage of medications.

Budgeting & Financial Management

• Develop and manage the pharmacy budget.
• Analyze drug usage and implement cost-containment strategies.

Quality & Safety Initiatives

• Lead quality assurance initiatives related to pharmaceutical services.
• Ensure compliance with infection control, storage standards, and documentation practices.

Technology & System Integration

• Oversee implementation and usage of pharmacy information systems and electronic medical records (EMRs).
• Ensure effective use of automated dispensing systems, if available.

Technical Skills

• Thorough knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and clinical protocols
• Familiarity with EHR systems and pharmacy software (e.g., HIS, SAP, Cerner, Meditech)
• Understanding of drug storage requirements, cold chain logistics, and compounding
