Job Summary

The Paint Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing all activities in the paint shop to ensure high quality of painted products, efficient workflow, adherence to safety & environmental norms, timely output, and minimal rework. The supervisor will lead a team of paint operators, helpers, and quality checkers, ensuring that painting processes meet company and client standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of the paint shop (surface preparation, masking, priming, painting/coating, curing, inspection).
  • Ensure that painting/coating work meets required quality standards (smoothness, uniformity, adherence, finish).
  • Develop, implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) for painting processes.
  • Maintain proper schedules to meet production deadlines and minimize bottlenecks.
  • Monitor paint shop equipment (spray guns, booths, ovens, curing chambers, masking tools etc.), and coordinate with maintenance team for upkeep and repair.
  • Manage inventory of paints, coatings, solvents, masking materials, consumables; ensure proper storage and usage to reduce waste.
  • Train and guide paint shop staff (operators, helpers) in best practices, safety, proper handling of materials/equipment.
  • Enforce safety, health, and environmental regulations: proper ventilation, protective gear, disposal of waste and solvents, prevention of hazards.
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality audits; identify defects; take corrective actions and continuous improvements.
  • Maintain documentation: production logs, quality reports, paint usage, defect reports, safety compliance records.
  • Coordinate with production planning, quality control, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely dispatch.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: B.Tech Chemical / Polymer or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience supervising paint shops or similar areas in manufacturing, preferably in sports goods / plastics / coatings industry.
  • Technical knowledge of different paint systems (e.g. powder coating, spray / liquid paint, primers, topcoats), surface preparation methods, curing techniques.
  • Good understanding of safety & environmental norms related to paint shops (handling of chemicals, PPE usage, ventilation, disposal).
  • Leadership skills: experience managing and motivating a team.
  • Ability to read and interpret process specifications, work instructions, quality standards.
  • Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills (Hindi & English).

Working Conditions

  • On-site work in paint shop environment (exposure to paints, odors, solvents).
  • Use of PPE (masks, gloves, protective clothing).
  • Standing / walking for long durations.
  • Possible overtime during high production demands.
