Job Summary: The Packaging Assistant in the chemical industry is responsible for assisting with the packaging and labeling of chemical products, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This role involves preparing products for shipment, maintaining packaging equipment, and adhering to regulatory guidelines to ensure safe and efficient packaging processes. Key Responsibilities: Packaging Operations: Assist in the packaging of chemical products according to specified guidelines and procedures. Operate and maintain packaging machinery and equipment. Ensure accurate labeling of products, including hazardous material labels where necessary. Inspect packaging materials and products for quality and compliance with specifications. Quality Control: Perform routine quality checks to ensure products are packaged correctly. Report any discrepancies or defects in packaging to the supervisor. Maintain records of packaging operations and quality control checks. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Handle and package hazardous materials according to safety and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA). Ensure that all packaging materials and processes comply with relevant regulations and company policies. Inventory and Materials Management: Monitor and report inventory levels of packaging materials. Assist in the ordering and restocking of packaging supplies. Keep the packaging area organized and clean. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with the production and logistics teams to coordinate packaging schedules. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding packaging operations and any issues that arise. Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving packaging processes and suggest solutions. Assist in the implementation of process improvements and efficiency initiatives. Participate in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement activities. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training in packaging or a related field is a plus. Experience: Previous experience in a packaging role, preferably in the chemical or manufacturing industry. Familiarity with handling and packaging hazardous materials is desirable. Skills: Basic mechanical skills and ability to operate packaging machinery. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Ability to follow instructions and work independently as well as part of a team. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Technical Competencies: Knowledge of safety protocols related to chemical handling and packaging. Understanding of regulatory requirements for packaging and labeling chemicals. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move packages up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks. Ability to work in a potentially hazardous environment with exposure to chemicals and fumes, using appropriate PPE. Work Environment: Work in a packaging and logistics environment within a chemical manufacturing facility. Exposure to chemical products and the need to handle hazardous materials safely. Regular interaction with production, quality control, and logistics personnel. Employment Type: Full-time, with the possibility of overtime and shift work as needed to meet production demands.
