Job Description

1.

  • Participate in policy decisions that affect patient care services
  • Implement hospital policies and rules through the assigned nursing units
  • Supervise nursing care provided to patients taking regular rounds
  • Plan and communicate resources needed for the delivery of best nursing care in the department
  • Estimate needs for facilities, supplies and equipment in various nursing units in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer of the unit
  • Maintain good working relationship and frequent liaison with other department heads.
  • Communicate regularly with the Deputy Nursing Officer /Chief Nursing Officer and give input on all matters related to nursing.
  • Supervise and develop Nurse Managers and Supervisors in coordination with the Nursing Administration
  • Attend the emergency calls concerning nursing services in the assigned shift.
  • Assist to keep records and reports of Nursing Services
  • Ensure proper utilization of resources in the area
  • Assist the staff development department in planning and organizing continuous Nursing education for the nurses.
  • Attend the official meetings as required
  • Keep the Chief Nursing Officer informed of the happenings in the clinical areas.

2. CLINICAL PRACTICE:

  • Make daily rounds on the patient care areas
  • Ensures proper admission, discharge of patients.
  • Awareness about the patient condition and able to assess the nursing needs.
  • Guides the nursing staff as required in nursing process.
  • Assists in the direct care of the patient as and when required.
  • Ensures safety, comfort of patients, visitors and employees.
  • Takes rounds of the entire hospital. Prepares hospital census, supervisors report and reports to the concerned authorities.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction & intervenes to address any problems or needs of the customer.
  • Help in monitoring compliance to Nursing practice standards in the assigned clinical area
  • Assist to collect and analyze data related to quality indicators for the department and hospital
  • Attend to patient complaints in the assigned area
  • Keep abreast of new technological developments in nursing and health care.
  • Assist to evaluate clinical competency of nurses according to the established Competency Assessment program

3. EDUCATIONAL:

  • Ensure completion of comprehensive orientation program for all new nursing personnel.
  • Participate in the assessment of learning needs and provide opportunities for staff development.
  • Actively participate in nursing in-service training program

4. QUALITY:

  • Implement the quality management plan for nursing in the assigned clinical areas.
  • Provide support required for quality management and improvement activities for the nursing department.

5. GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Arrange and participates in professional and social functions of the staff
  • Maintain good public relations.

Carry out any other duties and responsibilities assigned by Chief Nursing Officer from time to time.
