Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Patient Care and Education:

  Explaining procedures to patients, answering their questions, ensuring their comfort, and obtaining necessary medical history (e.g., verifying if a female patient is pregnant).

• Radiopharmaceutical Handling:

  Preparing, calculating, and administering radioactive medications orally, by injection (including starting IVs), or inhalation.

• Imaging Procedures:

  Operating various complex imaging devices such as gamma cameras, SPECT, and PET scanners to capture images of specific organs and body functions.

• Data Analysis and Reporting:

  Processing computer-generated images, analyzing data, and providing images and patient information to the physician or radiologist for interpretation and diagnosis.

• Quality Control & Equipment Maintenance:

  Performing regular quality control checks and calibrations on imaging equipment and maintaining a safe and clean working environment.

• Radiation Safety & Compliance:

  Adhering to strict safety procedures to protect patients, staff, and themselves from unnecessary radiation exposure, managing radioactive waste disposal, and maintaining detailed records in compliance with regulatory bodies like the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or state agencies.

• Collaboration:

  Working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, radiologists, nurses, and medical physicists.
