Job Description

The Microbiologist will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and controlling microbiological parameters in beverage production to ensure product safety, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards. The role involves conducting microbiological testing, developing microbial control strategies, and supporting R&D efforts to enhance product stability and shelf life.

Key Responsibilities

:

  • Microbiological Testing & Analysis:

    Conduct routine and non-routine microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using standard methods (e.g., plate counts, yeast and mold counts, pathogen detection).
  • Quality Assurance:

    Monitor microbial contamination risks across the production process, recommend corrective actions, and ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Product Development Support:

    Collaborate with R&D teams in developing and validating microbial control strategies for new and existing beverages, including preservation techniques and fermentation processes.
  • Environmental Monitoring:

    Implement and maintain environmental monitoring programs for production areas, equipment, and water systems to detect and control microbial contamination.
  • Documentation & Reporting:

    Prepare detailed microbiological reports, maintain accurate laboratory records, and document deviations or incidents in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance:

    Ensure compliance with local and international microbiological standards (FDA, ISO, Codex Alimentarius, etc.) and participate in audits and inspections.
  • Training:

    Provide training and guidance to production staff on hygiene practices, microbial control, and sample collection techniques.
  • Continuous Improvement:

    Recommend and implement improvements in microbiological testing methods, equipment, and procedures to enhance product safety and quality.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Food Science, or related field.
  • Experience (5+ years) in microbiological testing and quality control in the beverage or food industry preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of microbiological techniques, GMP, HACCP, and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with pathogen detection methods, fermentation microbiology, and spoilage organisms common in beverages.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment and microbiological testing instruments.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
