We are seeking a Media Operations Technician (contract to hire) to manage video assets, transcoding, quality control, and ensure compliance with all copyright laws and licensing agreements. Reporting to our Director of Global Content Operations, you will also handle technical troubleshooting, organize materials, and conduct quality control checks for both internal and external content distribution.
- Stage assets in on-premises storage, Aspera on Cloud, and GCP archive, followed by ingest into the order management system.
- Perform media preparation and transcoding of assets, including removal of bars and tones, commercial breaks, production slates, and other non-essential elements.
- Evaluate audio and video assets and complete necessary production tasks.
- Download and organize materials received from licensors.
- Review content and mark timecode points for the skip credits feature.
- Conduct quality control checks of content intended for internal site and external partner distribution.
Candidate Requirements:
Top Requirements (Must Haves):
- 4+ years experience in video, encompassing knowledge of related concepts such as timecode, frame rate, AV codecs, editing, timed text formats, and understanding of multiple video file formats and compression techniques.
- You have knowledge of industry-standard video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer.
- You are proficient in asset management, storage, and systems, including familiarity with cloud-based storage solutions and file transfer protocols (e.g., AWS S3, GCP, FTP, or Aspera).
- You have experience with media asset management (MAM) systems and digital archiving practices.
- You have an awareness of copyright laws and licensing agreements related to digital content distribution.
- You can troubleshoot technical issues related to video encoding, transcoding, and playback.
- You have familiarity with content protection measures.
- You communicate effectively (written, verbal, listening), and demonstrating the ability to describe issues by email
- You handle multiple tasks at once, demonstrating organization, punctuality, and excel at adapting to changing expectations
Key Tasks:
- Advanced CLI navigation, scripting (PHP), and publishing workflows
- Asset staging in on-prem storage, Aspera on Cloud, GCP archive
- Detailed media prep (removing bars/tones, slates, commercial breaks)
- Managing ingest & publish workflows
- Performing quality control for internal/external distribution
- More technical; requires Linux background, media editing, CLI, and metadata expertise
What we know:
- 4+ years in video ops with solid knowledge of codecs, timecodes, timed text, formats
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere, Avid, or FCP; cloud & asset storage (S3, GCP)
- Experience with MAM systems and digital archiving
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable in high-output, remote settings with minimal supervision
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Media Asset Management
- Download, organize, and stage assets from licensors (on-prem, Aspera, GCP)
- Ingest assets into order management systems and MAM systems
- Normalize subtitle, dub, and AV inventory (conform data/metadata)
Media Prep & QC:
- Perform transcoding and prep (remove bars/tones/slates, trim commercial breaks)
- Conduct technical QC of A/V files
- Mark timecodes for "skip credits functionality
Systems & Tools:
- Use tools like Adobe Creative Cloud (esp. Premiere), Avid, Aspera, GCP, S3
- Navigate asset management and storage systems
- Operate cloud infrastructure and media workflows
- Workflow Coordination
- Share workload across teams but report to Johnny (subtitle-to-premier team)
- Work independently and manage day-to-day time efficiently
- Collaborate with dubbing, subtitling, mastering, and localization groups
- Communicate effectively across a distributed, 24/7 global operations team
Soft Skills:
