Job Description

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Design Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for rail depots, station buildings, and associated infrastructure. The role involves design leadership and coordination across UK rail projects, with additional exposure to Canadian and Middle Eastern markets.

Your role

  • Develop HVAC designs for railway depots, station buildings, and maintenance facilities in compliance with UK rail standards.
  • Perform heat load calculations, ventilation strategies, and energy efficiency assessments aligned with international best practices.
  • Address depot-specific HVAC challenges, including:
  • Ventilation for maintenance bays to manage fumes and contaminants.
  • Dust and particulate control in heavy-duty cleaning zones.
  • Coordinate with MEP teams to ensure integrated design solutions considering buildability and operational requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with UK standards (BS EN), Network Rail specifications, and adapt designs for Canadian and Middle Eastern codes.
  • Prepare design reports, specifications, and respond to technical queries.
  • Utilize tools such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks, BIM 360 Or Bentley equivalent for reviewing models and generating schematics.
  • Competent in HVAC simulation software such as HAP, IES VE and OpenBuildings Designer energy simulator (Hevacomp).
  • Support multi-region projects, adapting designs to Canadian and Middle Eastern codes and climatic conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations.
  • Participate in internal meetings, presentations, and technical reviews.
About you
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of experience in HVAC design, preferably within rail or large infrastructure projects.
  • Proven knowledge of UK standards (BS, Network Rail LU standards) and familiarity with international codes (ASHRAE, Middle East standards).
  • Proficiency in HVAC design software and BIM tools (Revit MEP or equivalent).
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
Desirable Requirements:
  • Experience with UK rail projects and GRIP/PACE stages.
  • Exposure to Canadian and Middle Eastern rail/building projects.
  • Knowledge of energy modelling and sustainability frameworks (LEED, BREEAM).
  • Working towards or holding professional accreditation (CIBSE/IMechE).
  • Familiarity with digital platforms and willingness to learn new tools.
