Mechanical Design Manager

Role & responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the Mechanical Design team for power and distribution transformers.
• Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of design deliverables.
• Conduct regular reviews, provide guidance, and enhance team competency through training and skill development.
• Oversee the design of transformer tanks, core clamping structures, radiators, conservators, cooling systems, and other mechanical parts.
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications, IS/IEC standards, and internal design guidelines.
• Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
• Approve detailed design drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documents before release.
• Collaborate with the Electrical Design team for mechanical electrical interface requirements.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, Purchase, and Testing departments for smooth execution of projects.
• Support proposal & tender teams in preparing technical inputs and cost estimates.
• Ensure all designs comply with international standards (IEC, IS, ANSI, etc.) and customer specifications.
• Drive standardization of design practices, templates, and checklists.
• Maintain and update design records, technical documentation, and engineering databases.
• Identify opportunities to improve transformer design for performance, reliability, and cost optimization.

• Support R&D activities in developing new transformer designs and technologies.
• Implement best practices in CAD tools, 3D modeling, and engineering software.
• Plan and prioritize design activities in line with project schedules.
• Ensure error-free drawings and documentation are released within deadlines.
• Address technical queries from customers, consultants, and internal departments.
• Ensure designs consider structural integrity, thermal performance, and safety factors.
• Work with Quality teams to resolve field failures or customer complaints by providing design-related solutions.
• Promote adherence to organizational quality systems and ISO procedures.

Preferred candidate profile

• Transformer mechanical designs and drawings (GA, fabrication, assembly).

  Preferably from Transformer background.

• Bill of Materials (BOM) with accuracy and standardization.
• Technical support for tenders, proposals, and customer approvals.
• Standardization and modularization of designs for efficiency.
