Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Overview

We're looking for a creative and technically skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Advance Transmissions. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and improving mechanical components and systems for our products. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create innovative solutions that meet quality standards, manufacturing requirements, and customer specifications. This position requires strong technical expertise in mechanical engineering principles, proficiency in CAD software, and practical knowledge of manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and Development

• Create detailed mechanical designs and technical drawings for components
• Develop 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software
• Design and analyze mechanical systems, components, and assemblies
• Improve existing designs to enhance performance and reduce costs
• Apply GD&T principles to define part geometries and tolerances
• Create and maintain bill of materials (BOM) for designed components

2. Analysis and Testing

• Perform engineering calculations and analyses to validate designs
• Conduct stress, strain, and fatigue analyses of mechanical components
• Evaluate design feasibility through analytical methods and simulations
• Participate in prototype development and testing procedures
• Troubleshoot design issues and implement corrective actions
• Document test results and make design modifications based on findings

3. Manufacturing Support

• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are production-friendly
• Provide technical support during the manufacturing process
• Address production issues related to designed components
• Optimize designs for manufacturability and assembly
• Participate in process improvement initiatives
• Support the transition of designs from prototype to production

4. Project Management

• Manage engineering projects from concept to completion
• Meet project deadlines and budget constraints
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams (production, quality, suppliers)
• Develop project timelines and track progress
• Prepare and present engineering reports and proposals
• Document design changes and maintain version control

5. Quality and Compliance

• Ensure designs meet quality standards and specifications
• Follow industry codes and standards applicable to mechanical components
• Participate in FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) activities
• Support quality control processes and inspections
• Maintain compliance with safety and environmental regulations
• Contribute to continuous improvement of quality processes

6. Documentation and ERP

• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all designs
• Develop and update engineering drawings, specifications, and manuals
• Utilize ERP system for bill of materials management and engineering change orders
• Follow documentation control procedures and revision management
• Maintain organized digital and physical files of design documentation
• Collaborate with team members through the ERP system for project tracking

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 0-5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials
• Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
• Familiarity with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Good communication and teamwork abilities
• Project management experience
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is a plus

Work Environment

• Full-time position
• Office and production floor environment

Schedule

• Full-time, Monday through Saturday
• Standard office hours (9:00 AM to 6:00 PM)
• May require flexible hours during product launches or critical projects
