Manager-Test Automation

As a Manager of our Test Automation team at Ryan, you will play a crucial role in steering a high impact quality engineering practice that supports our strategic initiative to re-envision a broad suite of enterprise applications. Your responsibilities will include setting test automation strategy, mentoring a growing team of engineers, and ensuring predictable, reliable, and continuously improving release cycles. Your remit will cover governance, tooling, process optimization, and stakeholder communication, fostering a culture of quality across the SDLC. - **People:** - Cultivate an inclusive, growth-oriented team culture and create a positive team member experience. - Hire, coach, and performance manage a team of Test Automation Engineers. - Define career paths, provide constructive feedback, and drive continual capability uplift. - **Test Strategy & Planning:** - Own the end-to-end test strategy, including functional, regression, integration, performance, and security testing for multiple product lines. - Translate business and technical requirements into risk-based test plans and automation roadmaps. - Establish and track quality KPIs and communicate insights to stakeholders. - Act as an escalation point for critical quality issues and drive root cause analysis. - **Automation Framework Development:** - Direct the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, reliable automation frameworks across web, API, and microservices layers. - Integrate automated suites into CI/CD pipelines for shift-left testing and continuous delivery. - Guide the adoption of BDD/TDD practices, service virtualization, and containerized test environments. - Manage testing budget, vendor relationships, and tooling licenses. - **Quality Metrics & Reporting:** - Establish and track quality KPIs and communicate insights to stakeholders. - Act as an escalation point for critical quality issues and drive root cause analysis. - Maintain meticulous documentation for all testing activities. - **Collaboration & Execution:** - Partner with application developers to troubleshoot issues and document defects. - Work closely with product managers, UX designers, and business stakeholders. - Contribute to project planning and estimation for features and enhancements. - Lead technical discussions, mentor junior engineers, and support knowledge sharing. **Qualifications:** - Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related discipline (Master's preferred). - 9+ years in software quality engineering, with 3+ years leading distributed automation teams. - Deep expertise in at least one programming language (C# or Java) and object-oriented design. - Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and container orchestration. - Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with performance and security testing tools. - Excellent stakeholder management, prioritization, and communication skills. - ISTQB Advanced Test Manager or equivalent certification is a plus.
