Manager Spray Drying Function

Job Title

• Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot different types of spray dryers including

  co-current, counter-current, and mixed flow

  systems.
• Ensure optimal

  control of critical process parameters (CPPs)

  such as:
• Inlet & outlet temperature
• Atomization pressure and air flow
• Feed flow rate and feed solid concentration
• Drying air humidity and pressure balance

• Supervise the functioning of:

• Rotary atomizers

  and

  pressure nozzles

• Cyclone separators

  ,

  bag filters

  ,

  wet scrubbers

  , and

  product collection systems

• Drive initiatives for:

• Drying efficiency enhancement

• Thermal energy optimization

• Powder flowability and particle size control

• Handle

  cleaning validation and CIP/SIP systems

  associated with spray drying units.

B. Product and Process Development

• Work with R&D, F&D, and Tech Transfer teams for:

• Feasibility trials and scale-up

  from lab to commercial scale
• Selection and validation of

  appropriate atomization technology

• Optimization of drying kinetics

  to ensure reproducibility

• Support

  QbD-based process development

  , defining

  Design Space

  and Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs) for spray dried intermediates or APIs.

C. Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure compliance with:
• cGMP, ICH Q8/Q9/Q10
• Regulatory and internal quality standards for spray-dried materials

• Prepare and review:

• Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs)

• Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

• Deviation and CAPA reports

• Support regulatory submissions (e.g., DMF, ANDA) by providing necessary technical documentation and batch data.

D. Equipment Management and Safety

• Ensure readiness and calibration of spray drying equipment.
• Implement equipment maintenance plans (both preventive and breakdown).
• Monitor

  explosion prevention mechanisms

  such as inert gas blanketing, explosion vents, grounding, and static charge mitigation.
• Comply with

  environmental and occupational safety standards (EHS/OSHA)

  .

E. Team Management & MIS Reporting

• Lead a team of technicians, supervisors, and operators to ensure high performance and process discipline.
• Ensure proper training, skill development, and adherence to GMP standards.
• Maintain daily production logs, downtime analysis, material reconciliation, and performance KPIs.

Candidate Requirements

• Education

  : B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines

• Experience

  :
• Minimum

  10+ years of hands-on experience

  with spray dryers in pharmaceutical, or lifescience industries
• Exposure to

  regulatory inspections

  (USFDA, MHRA, EU, etc.) and handling audit queries related to spray drying operations

• Technical Skills

  :
• Proficiency in

  process analytical technology (PAT)

  and

  data trend analysis

• Working knowledge of

  SCADA / PLC-based controls

  for automated drying systems
• Capability to interpret

  HMI/PLC data

  , alarm systems, and historical trends
