Job Description

Job Summary: The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) is responsible for ensuring compliance with radiation safety regulations and guidelines in the auto components manufacturing industry. The RSO will oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials, primarily used in non-destructive testing (NDT), X-ray inspection, or other radiation-related applications in the plant. Key Responsibilities: Radiation Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) and other relevant regulatory bodies. Develop, implement, and monitor radiation safety programs as per industry and government standards. Maintain records of radiation sources, exposure levels, and personnel monitoring data. Conduct periodic radiation safety audits and inspections within the plant. Training & Awareness: Provide training to employees on radiation safety, safe handling of radioactive sources, and emergency procedures. Conduct refresher training sessions for workers exposed to radiation in their work environment. Ensure all personnel working with radiation sources are equipped with personal dosimeters and trained in their use. Monitoring & Risk Assessment: Conduct radiation exposure assessments and ensure radiation levels remain within permissible limits. Investigate and document any radiation incidents or abnormal exposure cases. Establish protocols for handling radiation-related emergencies and conduct periodic drills. Equipment & Safety Measures: Ensure radiation shielding and protective equipment are in place and maintained properly. Monitor and calibrate radiation detection and measuring instruments. Supervise the proper storage, transportation, and disposal of radioactive materials. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Maintain and submit reports to regulatory authorities as required. Liaise with AERB and other relevant agencies for licensing, renewals, and compliance checks. Ensure radiation workers undergo periodic medical check-ups as mandated by regulatory standards. Skills & Competencies: Strong knowledge of radiation physics, safety regulations, and hazard management. Excellent training and communication skills for educating workers on radiation safety. Ability to conduct risk assessments and implement preventive measures. Detail-oriented with strong documentation and regulatory reporting skills. Work Environment: Exposure to radiation sources used in quality inspection or material testing. Regular interaction with production, quality, and safety teams. Occasional travel for compliance audits, training, and inspections.
