Role summary

Role & responsibilities

Source and procure steel raw materials (carbon/alloy/stainless/duplex/super-duplex, forgings, blocks, plates) suitable for machined components used in Oil & Gas.
Ensure material compliance to industry standards (ASTM, API, AISI, EN, DIN, IS) and verify Mill Test Certificates (MTC).
Negotiate commercial terms, implement rate contracts and drive landed cost optimization.
Maintain optimum inventory (Min-Max, safety stock) to ensure zero stock-outs for production.
Conduct vendor identification, qualification, audits and performance reviews.
Coordinate with Engineering, QA, Production and Stores on material specifications, NDT, hardness and inspection requirements.
Track market trends and provide regular updates on steel prices, lead times and supply risks.
Support new product trials and sourcing for prototype/material trials.

Preferred candidate profile

Strong knowledge of materials used in machining: carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and relevant grades (e.g., A105/A182/4140/316 etc.) and machining/heat-treatment implications.
Experience with supplier negotiation, vendor development and PO lifecycle management.
Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/Ms Dynamics) and MTC / NDT documentation.
Good analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
