Description
As an IT Manager for Mainframe Applications & Operations at Thermo Fisher Scientific's Customer Channels Group in India, you will be leading a newly established team responsible for supporting two business-critical mainframes in Canada and the US. Your role will involve overseeing the day-to-day operations of the India-based team to ensure system stability, reliable execution of nightly batch runs, and overall health of the mainframe environments. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in driving efficiency, promoting collaboration across global teams, and ensuring operational demands are met both now and in the future. **Key Responsibilities:** - Lead the India-based mainframe team in monitoring, supporting, and enhancing applications running on two North American mainframes. - Ensure reliable execution of nightly batch runs and proactively address any issues affecting system availability or performance. - Collaborate with North American teams to ensure 24x7 coverage, smooth handoffs, and timely incident resolution. - Monitor system health metrics, escalate and resolve issues promptly to minimize downtime. - Foster a culture of accountability, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the India team. - Drive operational excellence through process automation, workflow optimization, and detailed documentation. - Ensure compliance with global IT standards, audit requirements, and change management protocols. - Communicate progress, risks, and operational insights clearly with leadership in both India and North America. **Qualifications:** - Strong background in mainframe operations, including application support, batch processing, and system monitoring. - Previous experience in leading technical teams, managing day-to-day operations while addressing project needs. - Effective communication skills to bridge technical and business priorities across global teams. - Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-functional environment, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term improvements. - Knowledge of legacy mainframe environments and their integration with modern platforms and enterprise operations. - Familiarity with ITIL or ITSM practices, such as incident, problem, and change management. **Education:** - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). - Advanced degree such as an MBA or Masters in IT Management is a plus. **Preferred Qualifications:** - Hands-on experience with mainframe technologies like COBOL, JCL, CICS, IDMS, and VSAM. - Familiarity with scheduling tools (e.g., CA7) and monitoring utilities. - Experience in managing offshore IT teams or supporting global IT operations. - Exposure to modernization strategies for mainframe systems or integration with digital platforms.
