Position Overview
The Manager Housekeeping is responsible for overseeing the entire spectrum of housekeeping and support service operations at SPS Hospitals. The role ensures high standards of cleanliness, patient comfort, hygiene, safety, and regulatory compliance while managing housekeeping staff, GDA staff, pest control, horticulture, laundry services, biomedical waste management, and hostel & accommodation facilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Housekeeping Operations
- Manage and supervise housekeeping operations across all clinical and non-clinical areas (wards, ICUs, OTs, OPD, diagnostic areas, administrative zones, public areas).
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, cleaning SOPs, and NABH/JCI standards.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure hygiene, safety, and service quality.
2. GDA (General Duty Assistant) Management
- Oversee GDA workforce deployment and ensure proper patient movement, bed-making, assistance in wards, and support to nursing teams.
- Ensure GDAs adhere to patient-handling protocols, infection control standards, and grooming requirements.
- Organize training sessions on patient assistance, soft skills, and hygiene practices.
3. Pest Control Management
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors for pest control activities.
- Ensure timely execution of pest control schedules across hospital areas.
- Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
4. Horticulture & Landscaping
- Supervise gardening and landscaping operations within hospital premises.
- Ensure green areas are well-maintained, clean, and aesthetically pleasing.
- Coordinate seasonal plantation, upkeep, and vendor management.
5. Laundry & Linen Management
- Oversee laundry operations including collection, washing, disinfecting, ironing, and distribution of linen.
- Ensure linen quality, stock control, and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Manage linen inventory for wards, OTs, ICUs, and patient rooms.
6. Biomedical Waste Management (BMWM)
- Ensure proper segregation, collection, transportation, and disposal of biomedical waste in line with BMW Rules & amendments.
- Conduct training for staff on biomedical waste handling.
- Maintain compliance documentation and support during audits.
7. Hostel & Accommodation Management
- Manage staff hostel facilities, accommodation allocation, maintenance, and cleanliness.
- Ensure smooth check-in/out process for residents by coordinating with other departments and resolve any accommodation-related concerns.
- Coordinate with maintenance for timely repairs and upkeep.
8. Staff Management
- Lead a large team including housekeeping staff, GDA staff, gardeners, laundry staff, and support staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations, prepare duty rosters, and manage attendance.
- Ensure continuous staff training on SOPs, grooming, communication, safety, and service standards.
9. Vendor & Inventory Management
- Manage outsourced service vendors (pest control, laundry, horticulture, etc.) ensuring service-level compliance.
- Maintain proper stock levels of cleaning chemicals, consumables, equipment, and linens.
- Ensure cost-effective and efficient resource utilization.
10. Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare daily/weekly/monthly MIS reports.
- Maintain records for audits, accreditation, and statutory compliance.
- Address patient and staff complaints promptly and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Qualification
- Bachelors in Hotel Management (BHM) or MBA in Hospital Administration.
Experience
- 7-10 years of experience in housekeeping or support services in a hospital or 3-star / 5-star hotel.
- Minimum 3-5 years in a managerial/supervisory role.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and people management.
- Understanding of hospital hygiene and infection control guidelines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously.
- Knowledge of BMW rules, pest control processes, and laundry operations.
- Proficiency in MS Office and reporting tools.
