Mainframe Technical Support Manager

What does a successful Mainframe Technical Support Manager do?

  • Lead Application Monitoring & Maintenance:

    Ensure high availability and performance of mainframe applications.
  • Oversee Security & Access Controls:

    Govern user administration and enforce data security protocols.
  • Drive Incident & Problem Management:

    Lead resolution efforts for application issues, minimizing downtime and impact.
  • Optimize Performance:

    Guide performance tuning initiatives and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Foster Collaboration:

    Partner with development, infrastructure, and business teams to align technology with business goals.
  • Maintain Documentation:

    Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Champion Automation:

    Promote and implement automation strategies to streamline operations.
  • X`Ensure Compliance:

    Uphold organizational standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.

What you will do:

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and support of mainframe applications with a focus on reliability and scalability.
  • Manage CA7 job scheduling and automation processes.
  • Provide Tier 2 production support, ensuring timely resolution of complex issues.
  • Oversee implementation of application enhancements within defined scope, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Manage 24x7 rotational support for high-impact payment processing systems.
  • Develop and refine support processes to improve resolution times and team efficiency.
  • Participate in operational readiness assessments and client onboarding initiatives.
  • Coordinate disaster recovery and business continuity planning and exercises.
  • Analyse recurring issues and drive corrective actions across teams.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Mentor junior developers and foster a culture of continuous learning.
  • Balance multiple priorities and lead cross-functional initiatives independently.

What you will need to have:

  • Expertise in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, CICS, Endev or, File Manager, File Aid, and CA7 scheduling.
  • Experience in the banking domain and production support.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible work schedules outside of normal business hours (shifts, weekends).
  • Knowledge of automation tools and practices like REX, UI Path.

What would be great to have:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Knowledge of application monitoring tools and techniques.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and scripting languages.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes and best practices.
