Logistics Manager - Import & Export Operations

Position Summary

The Logistics Manager for Import & Export will be responsible for developing and managing comprehensive logistics strategies for international trade operations, ensuring efficient customs clearance, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective supply chain solutions. This role requires deep expertise in international trade regulations, customs procedures, and cross-border logistics optimization.

Key Responsibilities

International Trade Operations Management

• Develop and implement comprehensive import/export logistics strategies aligned with business growth objectives

• Manage end-to-end logistics operations for international shipments including air freight, sea freight, and express delivery

• Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and logistics service providers

• Optimize shipping routes, transit times, and cost structures for international operations

• Ensure compliance with international trade regulations and customs procedures

• Manage relationships with international logistics partners and service providers

Customs Compliance & Documentation

• Oversee customs clearance processes for import and export shipments

• Ensure accurate preparation and submission of customs documentation (Bill of Entry, Shipping Bill, Commercial Invoice, Packing List)

• Manage compliance with GST, customs duty, and other regulatory requirements

• Coordinate with customs authorities and handle any clearance issues or disputes

• Maintain updated knowledge of changing customs regulations and trade policies

• Implement processes for duty optimization and drawback schemes

• Manage documentation for various trade schemes (SEZ, EOU, EPCG, Advance Authorization)

Regulatory Compliance & Trade Policy

• Ensure compliance with Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) and Export-Import guidelines

• Implement processes for product certification and quality compliance

• Manage compliance with international trade agreements and bilateral trade deals

• Stay updated on changes in trade policies, tariffs, and regulatory requirements

• Handle compliance for sensitive categories (electronics, pharmaceuticals, food products)

Supply Chain Optimization

• Optimize international supply chain networks and distribution strategies

• Manage inventory planning and forecasting for imported goods

• Coordinate with procurement teams for international sourcing initiatives

• Implement cost-effective logistics solutions and negotiate service provider rates

• Optimize warehouse operations for international goods handling

• Manage consolidation strategies and groupage shipments

• Implement track and trace systems for international shipments

Vendor & Partner Management

• Onboard and manage relationships with international freight forwarders and logistics providers

• Negotiate commercial terms and service level agreements with logistics partners

• Conduct regular performance reviews and vendor assessments

• Develop backup logistics partners and contingency plans

• Manage relationships with customs brokers and clearing agents

• Coordinate with international fulfilment centres and warehouses

• Establish partnerships with express delivery providers and postal services

Technology & Process Improvement

• Implement and manage logistics technology platforms and tracking systems

• Develop automated processes for customs documentation and compliance

• Integrate with marketplace platforms for seamless order processing

• Implement data analytics for logistics performance optimization

• Develop dashboards and reporting systems for operational visibility

• Manage integration with government portals (ICEGATE, DGFT, GST Portal)

• Implement digital documentation and paperless trade initiatives

Cost Management & Financial Operations

• Develop and manage budgets for international logistics operations

• Track and optimize logistics costs including freight, duties, and handling charges

• Implement cost allocation models for different product categories

• Manage foreign exchange exposure and hedging strategies

• Coordinate with finance teams for payment processing and reconciliation

• Develop pricing models for international shipping and logistics services

• Monitor and report on key financial metrics and cost performance

Risk Management & Contingency Planning

• Identify and mitigate risks associated with international trade operations

• Develop contingency plans for supply chain disruptions and regulatory changes

• Implement insurance strategies for international shipments

• Manage compliance risks and regulatory penalties

• Develop crisis management protocols for logistics emergencies

• Monitor geopolitical risks and their impact on trade operations

• Implement security measures for high-value shipments

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and manage a team of logistics coordinators and customs specialists

• Develop training programs for team members on international trade procedures

• Set performance targets and conduct regular performance reviews

• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence

• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including procurement, operations, and finance

• Provide expertise and guidance on international trade matters

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or related field

• 5-8 years of experience in international logistics, customs, or trade operations

• Prior experience with e-commerce or marketplace platforms preferred

• Experience in managing import/export operations for diverse product categories
