The University Librarian serves as the academic and administrative head of the University Library System. The role involves providing strategic leadership, managing library operations, implementing modern information services, and supporting teaching, learning, and research activities. The Librarian ensures that the librarys resources, services, and technologies meet national and international academic standards.
iii. A minimum of ten years of experience at the level of Assistant Librarian/Deputy Librarian/Additional Librarian in a University /College / Indian or Foreign Research Institution of comparable standards, of which at least three years should be at the level of a Deputy Librarian/Additional Librarian.
iv. Evidence of innovative library services, including integration of ICT.
i. Experience in managing large academic libraries, e-resources, and consortia memberships.
ii. Publications in peer-reviewed journals and active participation in professional bodies.
iii. A consistently good academic record with knowledge of multiple library automation and digital library tools.
Overall, librarian play a crucial role in facilitating access to information and fostering a love of learning within their communities. Their duties can evolve with advances in technology and changes in the needs of library patrons. Report to Vice-Chancellor in all library activities including the following:
To achieve the organizational goals, develop overall policies, planning, rules and regulations, terms and conditions to serve academic fraternity with maximum satisfaction level. Upgradation of technologies, tools, equipment including Library Management Software to deliver state-of-the-art library services. Designing, and customization of information services and ensure implementation of library policies and procedures.
Acquisition and subscription of information resources, i.e., Print, Online and/or Digital resources. Monitor the acquisition of new materials based on library needs, budget, and patrons' interests. Periodically assess and remove outdated, damaged, or irrelevant materials. Ensure materials are accurately catalogued in the library's database. Maintain inventory, safety and security of the library collection. Conducting stock verification and maintenance of library files, records and resources.
Assist patrons in locating and accessing books, articles, research materials, and other resources. Provide guidance on using library catalogue systems, digital resources, and research tools. Offer personalized assistance for complex research or information retrieval.
Plan and implement educational programs, workshops, and events for library patrons (e.g., reading groups, author visits, or digital literacy workshops). Develop outreach programs to promote library resources and services to various communities, such as schools or senior centers.
Technical and research support to faculty and research scholars assist students, researchers, and other patrons in academics, projects, conducting research and other assignments by providing access to relevant resources, databases, and tools. Provide one-on-one or group instruction on research methods, citation practices, and effective use of library resources.
Oversee the use and maintenance of library management software. Ensure that systems are up-to-date and functioning, and handle troubleshooting when needed. Manage circulation services (checking in and out of materials, renewing items, etc.).
Teach users how to evaluate and use information effectively. Promote information literacy by guiding patrons in understanding research processes and the responsible use of information.
Oversee the budget for library materials, equipment, and staff. Negotiate with vendors for new resources, technology, and services. Allocate resources efficiently to meet the library's goals.
Supervise library assistants, clerks, and other staff members. Provide training and professional development opportunities for staff to improve their skills. Overall administration, supervision and monitoring of library resources and services.
Manage access to online databases, e-books, and other digital media. Provide training on how to access and navigate digital resources effectively.
Promote the library's resources and services through newsletters, social media, and other marketing efforts. Engage with community members and organizations to raise awareness of the library's offerings.
Ensure that the library is a quiet, clean, and safe place for all patrons. Monitor library usage and address any disruptions or security issues.
Keep up to date with developments in library science, new technologies, and changes in library standards. Implement new tools or practices to improve library services and operations.
Ensure the library complies with copyright laws and privacy regulations. Uphold ethical standards for the collection, storage, and sharing of information.
