The Department of Anthropology at UCL is a research-led department with an international reputation, offering innovative teaching programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.The department is one of only a few broad-based anthropology departments in the UK comprising five sub-sections: Evolutionary and Environmental Anthropology, Social Anthropology, Material Culture, Medical Anthropology and Public Anthropology.
About The Role
We are seeking to appoint a part-time maternity cover Lecturer (Teaching) in Ethnographic and Documentary Film (0.4 FTE) with outstanding practice-based research and teaching experience in non-fiction filmmaking. You will be an active filmmaker with a strong interest in ‘authored’ approaches that push the boundaries of non-fiction as an art form and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of how non-fiction film engages with the discipline of Anthropology.This role will be available from the start of September 2025, until the end of April 2026 and will be based at our UCL East campus in Stratford.For informal enquiries, please get in touch with Dieter Deswarte d.deswarte@ucl.ac.uk.If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact anthro.hr@ucl.ac.uk.
About You
You will be educated to at least a bachelor’s level and possess extensive, up-to-date experience in non-fiction filmmaking, with a deep understanding of the field, a strong industry track record, and a proven ability to create innovative, author-led work. You will have proven ability and demonstrable expertise in teaching non-fiction film, including practical camera skills, combined with the experience of marking assessments, including film-based assessments and giving constructive feedback to students in writing and person.This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation.
