Job Description

Role & responsibilities

  • Develops the Safety strategy in alignment with the business strategy and guides the team to ensure the effective execution of the same
  • Develops relevant budgets and plans in alignment with the organization's budget and seeks necessary approvals. Ensures monitoring and reporting of the plan vs actual performance and supports the resolution of critical matters where required.
  • Contributes to development of and implements Safety Management systems for continual growth
  • Monitors and ensures compliance to the defined regulations and procedures through periodic inspections and checks. Liaises with Statutory Authorities like the Factory Inspectorate for inspection etc.
  • Leads accident / incident investigations, critical incidents analysis and remedy implementation for loss prevention to minimize critical incidents rate including Restricted Work Cases(RWC), Medically Treated Cases(MTC), Lost Time incidents(LTI), etc.
  • Leads preparation of on-site emergency plans and conducting emergency drills to ensure operational and process safety
  • Conducts operation readiness reviews for projects to ensure EHS&S compliance as per the design intent. Conducts project safety reviews and contractor safety programs
  • Liaises with external partners to drive safety audits at the site and drives implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Addresses any issues related to audit gaps or compliance-related escalated by the team
  • Performs risk analysis and assessment to predict / minimize damage from the chemicals. Guides team to maintain records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required
  • Guides team to analyze process and operational gaps and recommend enhancements to minimize incidents, improve operating efficiencies, control variabilities, and minimize loss
  • Directs the development, modification and implementation of policies, procedures, and controls for the site to ensure that all activities are conducted in compliance with external regulatory, risk and audit requirements and internal guidelines
  • Establishes, maintains, and strengthens relations with regulatory authorities by ensuring compliance to all laws and regulations that pertains to the site's operations to further organizations interests
  • Interacts with regulatory and industrial bodies to ensure compliance and smooth operation of the plants through maintenance of EHS standards. Liaises with Statutory Authorities like the Factory Inspectorate for inspection etc.
  • Interacts with internal stakeholders to develop, execute and train on emergency responsiveness plans

Preferred candidate profile

  • Qualification: B.E. in Chemical / ADIS / PDIS
  • Experience: Minimum 15 to 18 years, including at least 5 years in a managerial or lead role
  • Key Requirements: Strong knowledge of legal requirements related to Safety and management of Major Accident Hazard (MAH) units.
