Lead - Solar Design

Role & responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for end-to-end design and engineering of ground-mounted solar PV projects. The role requires hands-on experience in layout design, electrical and structural planning, system simulation, optimization, and design documentation in accordance with industry standards and project requirements.

Design Engineering & System Planning

• Lead the detailed design of ground-mounted solar PV systems (DC & AC side) including site layout, module mounting structures, inverter sizing, and cable routing.
• Perform solar resource assessment, energy yield estimation, and system simulation using PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar tools.
• Prepare and validate single line diagrams (SLDs), string sizing, shadow analysis, and BOQs.
• Design and validate interconnection with grid (HT/LT side), grounding, and protection systems.

Project Coordination & Execution Support

• Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, and SCADA teams to integrate all design components.
• Support project execution teams with design clarifications, revisions, and optimization.
• Provide technical support for procurement (equipment sizing/specs), vendor evaluations, and tendering processes.

Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure designs comply with applicable national/international standards (IEC, IEEE, MNRE, CEA norms).
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, datasheets, design reports, and drawings.
• Review and approve vendor GA drawings, datasheets, and calculations.

Team & Stakeholder Management

• Lead and mentor a team of junior engineers and draftsmen.
• Coordinate with internal departments, consultants, and clients for design approvals and technical discussions.
• Participate in technical meetings, reviews, and audits.

Preferred candidate profile:

• Proficiency in PVsyst, AutoCAD, Helioscope, SketchUp, MS Office, and electrical design software
• Strong understanding of solar PV components, grid integration, and utility requirements
• Familiarity with relevant codes (IS/IEC/IEEE/NBC/MNRE/CEA)

Qualification & Experience:

• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum 12-15 Years of experience in solar PV design, including ground-mounted systems.
• Proven experience in the design of ground-mounted solar PV projects (100MW and above)
• Hands-on involvement in at least 23 utility-scale solar projects from concept to commissioning
