Position Overview
The Lead Risk MSME & MLAP will be responsible for establishing, overseeing, and managing the overall risk strategy for the MSME and MLAP portfolios at Capri Loans. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of MSME/MLAP credit, along with broad exposure to enterprise and operational risk management. This role requires extensive experience in risk management and credit underwriting within the BFSI sector, specifically in NBFCs or mid-sized banks.
Key Responsibilities:-
1.Risk Management Strategy
- Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management framework to cover credit, operational, and enterprise risk for MSME and MLAP segments.
- Establish risk policies, governance structures, and key risk indicators (KRIs) to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, including RBI guidelines for NBFCs.
- Oversee the development of risk appetite statements, risk limits, and process controls aligned with business objectives.
2.Credit Risk and Underwriting
- Lead risk assessments and underwriting decisions for MSME and MLAP loans, ensuring robust due diligence, financial analysis, collateral evaluation, and legal/valuation interfaces.
- Monitor and manage portfolio quality, including NPAs (Non-Performing Assets), loan defaults, and credit risk.
- Define and refine credit risk policies, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory standards.
3.Operational Risk Management
- Lead the operational risk management framework, including RCSA (Risk Control Self-Assessment), fraud risk, vendor risk, and process controls, to safeguard the institutions operations.
- Monitor and mitigate risks associated with digital lending, scorecards, and tech-enabled underwriting/monitoring systems.
4.Team Leadership & Development
- Build and scale a high-performing risk team across locations, ensuring the team has the necessary skills, knowledge, and capabilities.
- Develop and implement risk training programs for both business and risk teams.
- Foster a culture of risk awareness across all levels of the organization.
5.Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with all RBI regulations.
- Engage with the Board Risk Committee and regulatory bodies, providing clear and actionable insights on the risk landscape.
- Safeguard the independence of the risk function from business targets, ensuring an objective and unbiased risk management approach.
6.Portfolio & AUM Management
- Oversee the management of large MSME and MLAP portfolios, with AUM (Assets Under Management) typically ranging from 1,5002,500 crore or similar scale.
- Analyze portfolio performance and recommend corrective actions to mitigate credit and operational risks.
7. Technology & Innovation
- Leverage technology and digital solutions (e.g., decision engines, automated underwriting) to enhance risk management processes.
- Stay abreast of industry trends in digital lending and implement relevant technological innovations to improve risk assessment and monitoring.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education & Professional Qualifications
Mandatory
: CA and/or MBA/PGDM in Finance, Risk, or related discipline from a recognized institution.Desirable
: FRM/CFA or other risk management certifications.
Experience
Overall Experience
: 15–25 years of experience in BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, Insurance), with a significant portion in lending businesses, specifically MSME and LAP segments.Credit/Risk Experience
: Minimum 8–10 years in credit/risk underwriting and portfolio management within an NBFC, fintech, or mid-sized bank, with a specific focus on MSME and LAP lending.
Functional Experience
- Proven track record managing portfolios of 1,500–2,500 crore AUM, including ownership of portfolio quality, NPAs, and policy design.
- Deep expertise in MSME and LAP underwriting, including financial analysis, cash-flow assessment, collateral evaluation, and legal/valuation interfaces.
- Broad exposure to enterprise risk management (risk appetite, limits, governance) and operational risk management (RCSA, fraud risk, vendor risk) in a lending context.
Regulatory & Governance Expertise
- Strong knowledge of RBI’s NBFC guidelines on risk management, CRO requirements, and risk governance.
- Experience in engaging with Board Risk Committees and regulators.
- Ability to safeguard the independence of risk from business targets, as per CRO guidance.
Technology & Digital Lending
- Comfort with digital lending platforms, decision engines, automated underwriting, and technology-enabled risk monitoring systems.
- Ability to implement technology-driven solutions to enhance risk management processes.
