Job Description

Role Overview:

The incumbent will be responsible for planning, managing, and executing all civil engineering activities related to the construction and commissioning of Direct Reduction Iron (DRI) plants or slimier project, with a strong focus on iron ore palletization and steel industry projects. This includes civil design coordination, site execution, contractor management, quality control, and compliance with international construction standards.

This role requires a hands-on civil project manager capable of working in complex, large-scale industrial environments, with frequent international travel to oversee project sites and ensure compliance with global standards, safety, and timely execution.

Role & responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end civil construction planning and execution for DRI or similar plants and associated infrastructure including foundations, industrial buildings, roads, drainage, and utilities.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and vendors for design approvals, BOQ preparation, estimation, and technical evaluations.
  • Review and approve civil & structural drawings, ensuring compliance with project requirements and international standards (IS, ACI, BS, ASTM, etc.).
  • Manage civil site activities, including earthworks, concreting, piling, rebar, formwork, and steel structures in accordance with safety and quality standards.
  • Supervise project timelines, budget tracking, and material planning to ensure smooth execution and avoid cost overruns or delays.
  • Conduct site inspections, quality audits, and ensure adherence to QAPs (Quality Assurance Plans) and ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans).
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams such as mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation for interface management during project execution.
  • Coordinate statutory and regulatory compliance related to civil works, including environmental norms, permits, and local building codes.
  • Manage vendor contracts, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to SLA/KPIs on-site.
  • Lead HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) compliance and enforcement of best practices on civil construction sites.
  • Prepare and present project updates, MIS reports, and risk assessments to leadership and global stakeholders.
  • Participate in project handover and documentation, including as-built drawings, civil work certificates, and closeout reports.
  • Provide on-ground support during commissioning and post-construction stabilization phase.
  • Travel to project locations (USA, Middle East, South Africa) for supervision, alignment with EPC contractors, and construction audits.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Bachelors or masters degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • 10 to 15 years of hands-on experience in civil project execution for iron & steel, palletization, or DRI plants.
  • The candidate must be willing to undertake extensive travel to site locations worldwide.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
